About alpha/beta access.

Am I correct in saying that there will be a beta that having access to beta1-2 will not allow you to particpate in and that these players will not have their progression reset at launch?

No you are not correct in that.

There are two betas, which you can get access to still. The servers will be wiped before the game goes live.

There are some kickstarter packages that have either 1 or 2 days (depending on teh pack) of early access to the live servers - much like almost every other MMO ever has done.

This early access though will be at a time when node progression is turned off. Since node progression is turned off, there is a very low maximum level of content, as content level is tied to node level.

What this means is that these players will not really be able to do all that much for those first one or two days. By the end of the third day (maybe the fourth, at the most) the difference between those that had early access and those that didn't will be completely gone.

I mean i wouldnt say itd be completely gone, but that definitely depends on if a player is hardcore or not, if they start ahead they have a subtle chance to stay ahead

    In most games, sure.

    Not in this one though.

Since the level of content is tied to the level of nodes, players can't really progress faster than the nodes around them.

Since node leveling won't be turned on until full access (and we don't even know if it will be right away then), there will be a situation where player that were already in the game for a day or two won't be able to level up, while those that are just starting will be able to.

Even if it doesn't happen in the first day or two, since there will essentially be a block to all of the fastest leveling players in the game with each node level increase, there will be multiple times when actual character progression will be unable to continue until a node is progressed.

It's not WoW. You don't have to play all day every day to keep up with some time-gated meta.
I'm noticing a lot of very traumatised MMO refugees coming from all sorts of failed games, with a lot of fears (understandably). I'm one of them myself.

Don't worry. You will not feel at a disadvantage for starting 2 days later than a few people. I am 100% certain of it. They won't even be able to progress because of the nodes like ^ said.

The only real advantage I see early-starters having is they will get the chance to form relationships in-game for 2 whole days... But we can do that too outside of the game if we want to!

I've never heard of any game ending headstart packages that you could only ever get on KS before alpha 1 even starts. Having everyone else start 2 days late is comeplete p2w especially since we dont even have alpha and everyone else is already locked out of the option. Normally headstart options run up to a month or 2 before launch.

it isn't an advantage because you cant level nodes, so you cant reach stuff higher than levels 10 to 20

Headstart is not pay to win. Stop getting your panties in a bunch.

As they have mentioned, the only material advantage that the Headstart people will get is that they will get to choose their node location, but only slightly more than everyone else, since they are level capped anyway.

    Virtue is the only good.

So they are level 10-20 when you are level 1 on an open world pvp server...and you don't think thats a huge advantage...all the people who paid extra for the packages with the headstart thought it was important. If it's not I am sure all of them would willing give that up since it doesnt matter lol thats not going to happen. Just being able to farm mats in peace for 2 days before everyone else would be huge

If a level 20 ganks a level 1 though they'll instantly become corrupt and face the risk of losing xp and all their gear. Theyll also have much better things to do when the nodes can finally progress then pick on level 1 player. The main reason they're doing the head start is to spread out the server population so you don't have 10k players in a single zone trying to log in all at once........at least it's not a 15 day head start like some Korean mmo's are starting to push.

You can choose not to start on a headstart server. So there wont really be a problem

    You wait about 6-12 months

    Err...

Wow is about the worst example you could use for a comparison here.

We're talking an open world PvP game with resource scarcity, a couple days to level up ahead of the crowd and have free reign of resource gathering is certainly a notable boon, and I don't think it's right at all to outright dismiss concerns about it.

That said, there are only a handful of headstart servers. Just join a different one.
