C'mon guy, as far as I understand the deadline you're referring to was a conservative estimate not a commitment for a firm deadline.

In light of the pandemic situation it has impacted on a lot of businesses release timelines, you have to take that into consideration. The Alpha 1 could have been pushed as far back as Q4 next year but it's not.

Since Alpha 1 is still planned for Q4 2020 they're not even far behind their original deadline. And yes I agree, things are looking pretty far ahead in terms of gameplay, which is probably why Alpha 1 is still planned for Q4.

The devs may want to make sure it's running smoothly and either iron out, or revise current systems or implement new systems before starting Alpha 1.

First impressions are pretty important, and if Alpha 1 still releases in Q4 and the client is better than it is now then I'd prefer to wait for it, so you should speak for yourself.

You've already waited so many years as you've said, what's another 2 and a half months going to hurt you? that's just 10 weeks away, another 75 days, and only 1800 hours, and there's 108,000 minutes in 1800 hours, which equates to 6,480,000 seconds, and that's only one 27000th percent of jef Bezos net worth, or roughly 0.027% of jef Bezos net worth if seconds were measured as us dollars. I think we should allow intrepid until the end of this year for alpha 1 at least.

Having said all that Ashes looks much better than jef Bezo's world since you brought it up. I do wonder if jef bezo will ever spawn in as a world boss or something like that in his world, if that did happen I wouldn't expect it to be a fair fight.
Look how much money jef put into new world, and look how much money went into Ashes. I know which one I'll be playing and which one looks better, that's for sure, and it's not jef bezo world.

No matter how badly you want to play a game, you don't get to determine when it's ready. It's like barging into an operating room and demanding the surgeon stitch the person up because they've been at it long enough already and, at a cursory glance, you think everything looks fine.

Patience isn't a virtue because it's easy. If you invested half a grand into the dream of a better MMO, you really don't want them to rush things.
  • winner909098winner909098 Member, Alpha Two
you know, this is average time for a mmo's release. They will give a hopeful guess, for if they get tons of money and use it to hire staff. They are doing pretty well, dont ignore this game for new world
  • New World missed lots of deadlines, and even delayed their main release date.

So you're really just looking for a reason to jump ship and get your money back, because missing dates doesn't really seem to be the issue.

Also as has been said, AoC has mainly given "hopeful dates" not really hard commits and official statement on dates.

They advertised 2018 for initial backers. As you put it, even if its a "conservative estimate" 3 additional years disqualifies it as conservative. Also, quarter 3 was not a "conservative estimate", it was a deadline. Secondly, steven has gone on live development streams and stated that they in fact have been making better progress working from home than in the studio. So this pandemic excuse youre giving is worthless and false. Lastly, who gives a flying what bezos net worth is. I invested half a grand into this and have been delayed and pushed back years, and its happening again. Enough is enough.

You know, AOC is actually one of the best games in development in terms of developers showing whats happening. You can leave, but in a few years you will return because this is the best MMO in development.

This thread will certainly be a productive and calm discussion.
  • So because you spent a bunch of money investing in this game, you are now demanding to get the reward for that in your time frame? Unfortunately that's not how it works, ESPECIALLY when it comes to ambitious game development.

I used to be like you and got burned once which is why I am no longer willing to sink money into an idea. If you spend money on something like this you need to accept there is the very real possibility you many not get your investment back. You chose to take the risk, caveat emptor. If you can't do this I would highly recommend not investing in things of this sort moving forward, you will sleep better at night.

And by all means go try out New World, you will be back well before AoC is out :)

@Wargasm you overly privileged child. Threatening fraud to get your way/attention is one of the saddest things I've seen. First off the IS does their best to state QUARTERS and by my estimate we are only just not beginning the 4th quarter in which they stated the Alpha would be released. I am a KS backer and can say my expectations for today are right where i knew they would be 3 years ago. You joined the forum, from you forum profile, on auguest 26th and im guessing you bought into an alpha package thinking you'd get the game sooner then their release date. How close am I? You are the type of person that make the IS team cautious and constantly adding a disclaimer every chance they get that this is not complete.

I almost want to give you $500 just to get you to leave so you wont stank up this community any more then you already have. Threatening to play a different game? Dude go do it. You can't honestly believe IS cares about your tantrum and that you'd get some serious backing from this community can you?

I've said this before but you're either secretly working for another gaming studio trying to flame AoC or a petulant MMO child and are the reason why game studios feel pressure to release incomplete games.

    Regardless FOH

We are 22 days into fall, which is not even a quarter of the way into fall. He has until December 21st to host one alpha 1 test to have met that deadline. It has also already been stated that the creative director's letter this Friday will have the testing dates in it.

How can i return to something i never got to play because their incompetence at meeting deadlines is boundless? Yes, it does look like a good MMO. As fat as best, that is individual preference. You know what adversely trumps quality of game? Being blatantly lied to and misled to secure funding from backers. I can get over various degrees of problrms in alpha etc. What i wont get over is being taken advantage of.

You should have done backround research on how long a MMO takes to make. They are on schedule for that, and please tell me one time that a small company didn't give an unrealistic estimate of when their product came out.

Imagine realizing the first response the internet provides you with isnt always the correct one.

"In North America, autumn traditionally starts with the September equinox (21 to 24 September)[5] and ends with the winter solstice (21 or 22 December)"

This is directly from that wiki article you linked me.

Some cultures regard the autumnal equinox as "mid-autumn", while others with a longer temperature lag treat the equinox as the start of autumn.[2] In the English-speaking world, Autumn traditionally began with Lammas Day and ended around Hallowe'en, the approximate mid-points between Midsummer, the autumnal equinox, and Midwinter. Meteorologists (and most of the temperate countries in the southern hemisphere)[3] use a definition based on Gregorian calendar months, with autumn being September, October, and November in the northern hemisphere,[4] and March, April, and May in the southern hemisphere.

Also the same article. We use a gregorian calender so it only makes sense the seasoms folloe the same calender. Also, anyone with half a brain doesnt think fall ends the same week as christmas. Try again.

Hahaha oh man this is too good. I wish you luck in life bub.

Before you start calling names and throwing around your stupidity, grow up. I posted a discussion about a OBVIOUS problem with their deadlines. Its not lying to state fraud when they have fraudulently solicited money from people using multiple dates and deadlimes they have not met. Period.

First off learn to use a forum and use @ and quotes. Secondary you stated nothing as you've shown zero evidence. You've only challenged others to prove you wrong. I really can't wait to not be under NDA...but for the time being lets do this:

    pulled from their kick starter:
    Story

Ashes of Creation is a new MMORPG that aims to bring the Massive back to Massively Multiplayer. It takes everything we love about the genre and brings it boldly into the future as a truly next generation title. We’ve all wanted a world that lives and breathes and reacts, where our decisions matter, where the world changes because of what we’ve done. Ashes of Creation is that game: The rebirth of the MMORPG.

Choosing your class, race and gear is a good start, but while most MMOs stop there, Ashes of Creation is just getting started. All of civilization is the responsibility of our players, and how that civilization evolves comes down to what our players decide. If you want a city, or marketplaces or the comfort of your own home, it’s up to you to build it. If a city is encroaching on your territory, it’s up to you to destroy it. Allies and enemies, friends and foes, these are words determined by you, not by us - there is no red and blue team for you to fall back on. Your grudges, your wars, your peace are real things, created by you, and the history of conflict is the history of the players.

In order for choice to matter, the world must be capable of change. Ashes of Creation brings to life a world designed around that concept. From seasons that include quiet autumns and devastating winters, to a volcano that threatens to level a city, this world lives and breathes and reacts to what the players do. On one server, that volcano may never erupt, in another that devastating winter may last five cycles, or with the help of a few heroes maybe only one.

From the moment a settler steps through one of the divine portals, the world has changed and will forever be changed. Ashes of Creation gives players unprecedented control over their destiny, and it’s the world’s ability to change that gives them that power.

But change for change’s sake means nothing without consequence. That means that these changes and these choices must have repercussions, they must be *felt* throughout the rest of the world. It means that when a player makes a choice in a quest, that choice can’t be undone. It means that when that volcano erupts and destroys a city, the landscape is forever altered. It means that when a tyrant makes life difficult for his citizens, his citizens can rise up against him. Players have choices to make, those choices lead to change, and that change has consequence. Day to day, server to server, the world will be in flux, and history will remain where it always should, in the hands of the player.

The state of the world is determined by our Node System. It’s through this system that players determine how civilization evolves, and it’s through this system that our world determines how to react.

Every zone is made up of multiple Nodes, and each Node has a Zone of Influence. As players adventure and complete their day-to-day goals, their experience is being captured by a Node through its Zone of Influence. As players level up, so do these Nodes. With enough experience a Node might become a village, a city, or with enough effort even a metropolis. As these population centers open up, players can establish citizenship through in-Node housing, instanced housing, or our Freehold system.

More player activity results in more civilization, bringing with it new quests, events, and services that players can take advantage of.

These centers of civilization will be ruled by you, the player, through democracy or through force. You determine whether that temple is built, or that barracks, or that marketplace.

But everything has a price, and the savvy politician must decide whether that price is paid through tyranny, through diplomacy, or through war.

Every leader is ultimately bound by their economies, which are local to their region. There is no global auction house, and resources don’t exist in unlimited supply.

Some regions might have too much iron, others not enough, and thus trade routes will be brokered and fought over. The transport of goods is an essential facet of our game, and though dangerous and fraught with risk, the health of the Node depends on it.

It depends on it, because the world doesn’t appreciate civilization. Something dark and terrible happened long ago to wipe it from the face of this planet, and now that civilization has returned, those dark things stir again.

Can you remember the names of the gods that once were, and invoke their aid? Or will you erase their memory from history and take up the sword yourself?

Ashes of Creation is at it’s core, a high fantasy world, with monsters, demons, dragons and heroes. Players will be able to choose from one of 8 races (four species, each with two subtypes). In keeping with our theme of Consequence, and unlike other games, race won’t just be a matter of look, with relatively inconsequential abilities tacked on. Instead they integrate deeply into our class system, augmenting and changing the basic chassis provided by our eight core archetypes. Our goal here is to create a system where an elven fighter feels different, but serves the same role as a dwarven fighter.

At some point during your adventuring, you’ll be able to augment your primary class with a secondary class, chosen again from the eight archetypes. Do you want your fighter to channel the elemental energies of a mage? Or would you rather your rogue be able to summon a helping hand? Maybe your ranger wants to supplement his healing abilities, or perhaps your bard wants to off-tank? You further specialize your character by choosing this secondary class, augmenting and changing what your core class can do.

We’re a team of MMORPG veterans, brought together under one flag, with one goal in mind: To finally advance the genre. There’s over 40 years of MMO experience here in this office, and we have the experience and the know-how to get this project done.

We've put together an extremely valuable set of reward packages for our backers. We know that you're taking a leap of faith with us, and we want to make sure that when we launch, you feel our appreciation.

    * - Travel and lodging not included.
** - Shirts will be distributed at launch party, case by case accommodations may be provided if necessary.
    *** - Pending final approval

    Monster Tokens

Monster tokens are an item that enables players to play as monsters within our event system. These range from playing with your friends as a horde of zombies all the way to a massive dragon yourself! Successful players will be rewarded with unique cosmetics only.

    Phoenix Initiative

The Phoenix initiative reward is an exclusive game instance in which certain players can enter. Think of it as a secret club, where you can socialize with other members. This area will not offer any “Pay to Win” functionality, it will simply offer what the world does in a more personal space. This is an area devs and GMs will often hang out there in their off time, and gives you a chance to interact with them in game!

    Any “Design” Reward

These rewards are your chance to help design the listed item. Guidelines will be given and we’ll work with you to leave your mark on our world!

We’ve got private backing that will allow us to produce a core viable product. What Kickstarter will allow us to do is expand our scope and give our team flexibility and room to breathe. To really give us the opportunity to create *exactly* what we want. Crowdfunding also allows us to connect directly with the players most invested in our success. We need your voices to help grow this community, and to keep us accountable to those who matter most, the players. Come help us bring MMOs into the future, and make the game I know all of us want to play. From the ashes, MMOs will rise again!

    Risks and challenges
Game design is inherently risky, and Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Games are probably the most challenging genre in the industry. We are a team of veterans who are aware of and have lived through these challenges, and we're coming at this project with the kind of expertise that allows us to mitigate and manage them. More importantly, we see this project as a way for us to 'do it right.'

However, we are not oracles, and unforeseen problems will almost certainly rear their ugly head. We have accounted for these unknowns in our budget and schedule, but in the event that is not enough, we will be open and honest about what those issues are, and how we're going to address them.

We also may find that certain systems or mechanics that we're talking about today simply aren't fun or good for the health of the game. In those cases, be aware that the game may change in fundamental ways as we work through feedback, testing, and polish. The vision will always remain the same, but how we get there might not.

With all that being said, we are aware of these risks and challenges and are confident in our ability to release Ashes of Creation as a finished product. Come hell or high water, we're going to get this thing done.

These are our promises to you:

    * To continue our open development process with you, our backers, on our website and Discord channels.

    * And finally, in the case that Ashes of Creation does NOT launch, we promise to refund all backers in full.

In this you'll see that they are upfront that they will refund upon not completing of the game.

Secondly when you purchased the game you did did so with the intention of a completed game with an alpha key (depending on your purchase). No where in your purchase does it say you'll be in the game at an exact date. If so please do show me where you see that.

Thirdly, you as a purchaser assume risk in any purchase you buy. Just because you didn't read the fine print don't start this cancel culture BS and started accusing fraud. If, and i mean IF, IS misses their "Fall" deadline these are internal deadline they imposed on their self and related to their community. You are not an investor as defined by a public company. You purchased a product and there for are only afforded the products you purchased. So if alpha comes out in 6 months and you get access you got what you paid for.

Lastly, you sit here thinking you are having an intelectual conversation? At the end of you "discussion" you personally attack Steven for what purpose?

I really like how this complaint is coming from someone who isn't a ks backer, from what I can see.

Also isn't moving to new world a bit ironic? Is it not fraud to claim your game is primarily based around full loot pvp and then do a 180 like a year later?
