Does it roleplay in AoC?

Hey all,
I have this idea for a guild within AoC and wanted to know if you think it is viable to roleplay this guild into existance?
The general idea is that the guild would act as a hub for bounty hunters. Every member can be assigned to hunt someone based on the PvP system of corruption, or take on odd jobs from the community.

Some examples: if there are no jobs to be done the guild can wander around the node in search of corrupted players to collect the corrupted bonuses of pk'ing them.

If a traveler/gatherer/merchant/crafter wants to go to another node, area, or complete a task in a pvp heavy area the guild will accompany them and act as bodyguards for hire

If someone is being griefed by another player whether the griefer has corruption or not they can pay a fee to put a bounty on their head within the clan.

Those are just some examples and i want to know two things;
1. Do you think this roleplay idea is viable within AoC?
2. What kind of roleplay do you want to breathe life into AoC?

You could 100% RP a mercenary guild. If you are skilled it would work just fine. When there is no merc work you could just use the in game bounty system to hunt corrupted players. You could also escort caravans NPC or player.

exactly my thought process, good to hear some confirmation i thought it may be too ambitious and usually is too ambitious in other games.

I was actually hoping that some players would play this way! :D

Q1. do you think this roleplay idea is viable within AoC?

     A. I think it's viable enough, and I'd rather see you take the initiative to make such an interesting idea a reality!
I'm very attracted to stances like EVE Online's, where you're free to do whatever the game system allows you to do. (Except, of course, for acts that are grossly inhumane.)
Such a game experience goes beyond just passively playing the given content, it stimulates the player's curiosity and allows them to exercise their imagination.

Q2. what kind of roleplay do you want to breathe life into AoC?

     A. Ultimately, "single-minded focus on specific content" is my preferred way to RP.
Of course, immediately after release, I plan to explore the world of Verra, and through my adventures, interact with a wide variety of players and enjoy the content.
After that, I plan to keep the adventuring to a minimum and focus most of my efforts on crafting.
I'm relieved that the crafting system is officially declared to be challenging, but I'd be mortified if the crafting elements were just content to make things for easy adventuring ......
My goal in role-playing is to make other players happy by providing them with something they truly need, but can't easily find ;)

As I said enthusiastically, I'm obsessed with making things, so if any player PKs me, I'll be the first to ask you to retaliate lol.

No, it doesn't roleplay. It puts the lotion in the basket, or it gets the hose.

And we will need things crafted so we can be of mutual service lol. We protect you getting your supplies, gathering rare materials, avenging your death; you pay or offer us discounts :) win-win

Considering the game is gear dependent. I am not a fan of the execution of your idea. Whilst the idea of a mercenary guild is certainly viable, and arguably is always popping up where RP exists. I always find myself wearing sub-par or really bad gear, just for aesthetics. For RP I can do this, for my RP power is in no way tied to my actual character. For example, I might be a Conjuror as character but RP a civilian.

That said, not everyone has to adhere to these guidelines, obviously. And if you and yours enjoy utilising the bounty hunting system and manage to enjoy getting RP out of it. By all means, go for it! The more RP I see, the happier I'll be.

really? i have the opposite view. I think BECAUSE the game is gear dependent there is a shot that it will work. It really does depend on the developers when they implement the system but if the guild has relations with good smiths/crafters/etc this would be an alluring drawing point to the guild for recruitment (getting a discount at a master artisan etc). If they end up having custom crafting aesthetically a uniform or design theme can be made. If worst comes to worst with gear aesthetically the guild could operate like an adventurers guild so everyone can have their own gear and we just post "jobs" for people to take and so on.

if thats not what you're talking about then could you clarify?

You can make your gear look different with cosmetics or costumes.
  • As I have seen others share thoughts around being mercenary/"bounty hunter" guilds, I would definitely say it seems like there's enough interest to bring the sparks of your idea to life! <3

Correction. You can use designated cosmetics and costumes. We do not yet know if you can "create your own"

I didn't say you could make them. I said you could make your gear look different with them...

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work out.
