Chapter Fourteen: Building Our Future

Our successful campaign has won us the mayorship! As we sit down at our post in city hall, a familiar deep orange glint catches our eye from the corner of our desk. With the newfound power of planning in our hands, we could build the services needed to find answers on our jewel.

What building should we construct?

you fools! We must set our scholars to work creating the plans before the Smiths start working.
  • nein fool there are more practical uses for a forge than a library. At best a library is a place for wizards to hold things. Blacksmiths are for literally everything! every building shall be a blacksmith!

Really we need both, where the blacksmith will help to arm the citizens.... and building a set of shelves in a quiet building doesn't mean it will be populated with useful lore books immediately.

Finally now to rule with an iron fist!
Get your filthy fingers off my gem Davey!

The pen is mightier then the sword. Knowledge and learning is better then playing with rocks.

Trying to figure out the gem will take knowledge I don't think a blacksmith will have.
Most people never listen. They are just waiting on you to quit making noise so they can.

Let's just stud the gem in the hilt of our next sword and be done with it.

    How shiny?
Like don't look at the sun shiny or like it has an inner magical glow shiny?
My vote stands need to learn more and smashing atoms at the smiths might help but probably not.

Although I do agree we need both, as far as first, I can't see building a library only to have the economic node come back to a town unequipped for another fight. It would be a shame to see it burnt to the ground just after being built... Forge the weapons, shoe the horses, cast the cauldrons for the oil on the ramparts and the plows for the fields so we can eat and have grain for the beer... Secure our newfound seat of power... After that we can learn the ways of magic from a position of strength...

We need a library so we can research the gem.

If we build a library, it may even give us a book on how to build a better smithy.

I have a hypothesis that our precious gem is actually a kyber crystal.

Let's stuff it into a lightsaber and see what happens.
    To the forge!

(Truth: Nah I'm just gonna appropriate our newfound political power for personal gains. Let's use tax money to construct a blacksmith to be used by OUR crafters, myself included. Hail! business!)

I wonder if that's how Elves came to be. They were bitten by an awesome uber-mouse and developed magical powers.

  • I am disappointed that a woodworks is not an option, nor a leatherworks. Since I cant upgrade my items, the library will tell me where I can do so.
  • Library! We need library to find the materials for blacksmiths to craft.

You're bleeding for salvation, but you can't see that you are the damnation itself." -Norther
  • A difficult choice.

We managed to survive the first onslaught from a rival village, but will we survive the second without sufficient tools and weapons and parts? I am both sympathetic and eager to turn this community into a place of peace and learning. However, to safeguard the learned ones that all ready dwell here and to support our new land and holdings, I feel the blacksmith is the obvious choice at this time.

The mysteries of the gem will (hopefully) keep as we establish ourselves here.
  • First, we need to construct the library, for our research. We need info after all. After that, we can build the blacksmith as well.
It's like in chess - first, we need to plan our moves and after that we move the chess pieces.
    I hope it works out.

    Blacksmith!!

    Pragmatics > Semantics
I wish I were deep and tragic
  • <placing soap box in the center of the village, stepping up on it and preparing a public speaking voice>

"Fellow citizens, brothers, sisters, lend me your ears!"

"The decision that rests before us, 'Blacksmith, or Library" is only one of many we must make to grow this village and make us all prosper. Where should we turn to for guidance for the decisions that will come in the future? Do we want to base those decisions on education and learning? or on tools, pots and pans, horse shoes and wrought iron gates?"

"Dear friends, many seem to think that a Blacksmith will make us weapons; let us be clear, a Blacksmith may be able to fashion simple eating knives, arrow heads and make limited sword repairs, but they are not a Weaponsmith. The art of folding iron and steel is far more specialist than a respected, but more generalist tool making, Blacksmith would manage. I believe some of us are misleading themselves and others, when suggesting a vote for a Blacksmith."

"A Library will increase our education and open up so many more opportunities through superior intelligence. So, I ask you all now to consider your decision and chose the option that will better inform all future decisions, The Library."

"Thank you for a few minutes of your time and listening so intently."

<steps of soap box, picks it up and wanders off>
