i'm sure this has been asked somewhere so apologies for a re-post, but regarding character names will we be able to do a first/last name like GW ?

    Yes. In fact the family name will be somewhat important as you'll have family members (up to 9 I believe?) that will share it.

    Characters will have a first-name and an optional surname (last name).
    • There is a minimum length of three for a character name.
    Character names will appear on the character sheet and optionally on the character website page.
    • In-game a character's name is displayed above their head. This can be the first or last name.

    Speaking of names, did anyone else play wow during vanilla release and happen to be blessed with a server that had 7000 Night Elf hunters with a variation of the name Legolas? At the time I thought this was the craziest garbage I had ever seen and now I look back and respect how much of an inspiration LOTR was.

    Going back to topic, one thing about names is that I've never enjoyed playing an MMO with characters that have numbers/leet speak for their names. I don't know why but when I read an NPC saying, "Lord XxLeg0lasxX, might I trouble you for some coins?" it's always irked me. One of the biggest reasons of trying to get an A1 key (via Charity livestreams and gourd carving contests) for me was that name lock feature. I recognize that I will probably not get one of the more common fantasy names like Soren, Zephyr, or Azrael, but anything is better than than trying to spell "Grog" like "Grauuugh".

    Would be nice if they used a system that did not need reservations to begin with. I like the server ID systems newer games tend to use that allow people to use the same name. Since by MMO logic there can only be one Kyle in the world. XD

    Blizzard has a good system you can be Bob#1442 and i can be Bob#8872 and the numbers are hidden. I think that's a very good system tbh
