I think it would be cool if there was a mini questline and/ or cinematic when you create a new character instead of just spawning in the middle of a town, something that shows a little but not to in depth of the lore behind how you got there and the planet you are about to explore

The lore of the game is basically that you walk through a portal to a world tou know nothing at all about.

I'm not sure how much of a cinematic is needed to convey that.

The loading screen could be a portal like Diablo 1 or Phantasy Star Online. That would do a good job of letting me know I am traveling through a portal. Tera also had that cool warp loading thing when you fast traveled on a flight path through a warp gate. Lots of cool options outside of pointless cinematic.

To be clear, I want Zero Cinematics in any game I play ever. For all time. #nomovies!

Such things gets quite tedious in an mmorpg where you create multiple characters. Perhaps if you were able to tick a box when creating the character to skip intro. But i'd much rather prefer it to be told through let's say a book, perhaps you find someones diary.

I love cinematics - I want to feel like I'm in a movie or TV show. And I prefer that to feeling like I'm in a game.
I don't know that Intrepid has the funds to spend on that - if they don't, it's OK.
Every MMORPG I've played allows you to Esc out of cinematics if you wish.

Those very words burn my soul every time I am forced to read them instead of get out of a cutscene. :(

the released game doesnt have one starting area it will have several that the player can choose

cinematics i see primarly in story dirven games ashes aint story driven theres no campain or so.

i rather have a game where i fully can dive in than have to watch nice cinematis just to get disapointed that the game doesnt look like in the cinematic.

Just look at wow mini intro cinematic when you create a character.
it is nothing more than a camera travelling with a voice presenting your race and you in really simple way.

This can be done in any game

    1) Do a camera travelling per starting point, finishing its way where the new character spawns (what wow does)
    2) do a general text presenting why our characters come back to verra (and another for the tulnar starting point)

and here you go. It doesnt need to be long cinematic, 20 sec, 30 sec is more than enough.

Intro cinematic would be nice. A voice over telling us about what our race's goals are, almost like a mission statement, and then the game sends us off into the world. This, IMO, is the only cinematic we need. (Also maybe a video when you first log in when your node levels up? A quick fly around the new node and a quick scene of a new dungeon or raid that spawned? Just an idea.)

I loved WoW's intro flying cam. WoW was my first MMO, and seeing that cinematic made my jaw drop. It would be nice to have this for new players and first time MMO players too.

I have to disagree with you here. I played Chrono trigger as a kid and I saw my character (pixelated) grab the masamune sword, beam energy into the sky and then proceed to split a mountain in half. I loved it but when the DS version came out I got to see a 30 second clip of this happening and it BLEW MY MIND. This scenario was enjoyable for me because of nostalgia but the fact that it was a short clip to describe in detail what was going on is what I loved. I don't want movies in games but short clips very rarely would be ok by me. Monster hunter world is a great example of too much bullshit that I don't want to see.

On top of that, if they decide to dive into the lore, these clips would add to the game in ways that could potentially allow additional IP's to come in the future, which I am all for.

As far as I am concerned, from the second I log in to my character, I should have full control over said character until I log out.

Additionally, cut scenes in a game with full PvP just seem stupid.
  • KhronusKhronus Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
@Noaani I agree. During the game there should never be any moment that we do not have full control of our characters (looking right at you melee combat forced movement). What I mean is a short cut scene at the start of the game to start us on our journey. Seeing your character go through the portal would be pretty cool. Maybe some during instanced content to give us more depth from the lore. Just short, visually appealing clips that add to the already beautiful world. If we end up with nothing, I won't be disappointed but why not throw in some flavor.

(Well, I do love me some Blind and Fear, but...)
I love cinematics with my avatar in the scene - but, again, I want to experience in the world to be more like a TV show or movie than a game.
More of a Multiplayer Evolving Online World than an mmorpG... but some players like to focus more on the Game than the story.
