I am pretty sure if you make a good case to the right politician about how MMORPGs help stop the spread of Covid we could get the Ashes budget in the billions via taxpayer money. XD

Yeah some people like to pvp, some people like to play the economy in games, some people like PvE, some people like gathering and professions, and some people like to collect mounts and gear for the looks. None is better or worse than the other.

None is better or worse than the other. I play MMOs for PvE (high end raids) and some pvp. But I also like to collect items to look "cool" and have rare mounts. And if I can buy cool mounts (skins or not) that devalues my achievement or feel of looking "cool" in a gear set.

The game I probably play the most these days is Star Trek Online. My favorite part of that game is flying my starship around and getting into space combat. But I'd look pretty foolish if I was to gripe about my inability to beam onto a Battlecruiser and fire torpedoes at some Nausicaan Pirates in Ashes of Creation. Because I know what kind of game this is, they've been open about it from the beginning. If that's all I cared about, I'd be better off checking out another game. No game will appeal to everyone. This one probably won't be fun for you.

The reason there is no box price is so that people can try out Ashes with a low barrier to entry.
rikardp98 wrote: » Well most game have a free trial, not sure why ashes can't have it as well? Free trial to a curtain lvl, then you need to buy the game and get a subscription to continue.
rikardp98 wrote: » So you are saying that looking cool and strong in a fantasy game isn't realistic? From my knowledge, kings and high ranking soldiers looked pretty over the top and legendary just to show of their power and richness. I'm not saying that ashes should be for everyone, but if they have cosmetics items and mounts in the shop then they want people to want to look cool. So looking cool is a part of ashes.
Overthrow wrote: » That would still be a barrier to entry - as soon as the free trial expired you would need to pay $50-60. With the current model you could play for 4 months without having to pay that much. Plenty of time to get invested in the game and make friends
rikardp98 wrote: » If you play to for example lvl 10 then you would have a pretty good idea of how the game is. Maybe 15-30 days of game time or to lvl 10-15, then $50 for the game + 30 days then that would be a total of 60+ days for $50. 4 months with just sub fee = $60 4 months with free trial + box fee + sub fee = $80-$90 $20-$30 isn't that a huge barrier for entry (for most people)
