Give me RP servers or give me death. Or no global chat to combat spam.

I know RP servers have been denied at least for the time. But for the love of god can we get something, anything that will ban real life bs like politics from global chats. It's not even about even about RP, it's just about keep the toxic waste out of the game. Yeah I know you can /ignore or whatever, but on a healthy server it's never ending and i just end up turning off the chat.

Edit. I've changed the title to something else, that better fits the discription. Because no global chat filter can combat, toxic spam from other players, or gold selling.

Same people that also won't want global chat will be the same people that will have large guilds ready to go day one lol. Less competition since people can't communicate with easy other easily. All you are wanting is harming other smaller groups.

How so? Do only large groups of people have discord? Pretty sure smaller friend groups creating guilds know what discord is as well... Also pretty sure there will be ways to like browse for guilds to join via some kind of guild board or something. Just an FYI i have 0 plans to play with anyone so far day 1 and I would love no global chat.

This isn't true either, Global chat is not everything, there is also private messages, mail, probably some type of guild chat, of course general. Maybe even a city chat if yer in a city... (speculation) As listed above pretty sure if yer planning on running a guild like you made it sound like, i'm sure there is going to be some sort of guild browser / register.

Not necesarily world chat but perhaps within your node and adjacent nodes limit

I'm aware ANYONE can use discord you are missing the point, it makes it harder for people to organized without being able to communicate. Which means guilds won't be able to effectively recruit further increasing the gap between guilds that are set up already and large guilds which will steam roll a server with competition. Easily allowing them to stabilize early game and stay as a dominant guild more easily.

You are making a lot of assumptions of what you think they might have. I'm not going to assume something until it is shown or confirmed. The same people can say the same thing about city chat, not wanting to hear it. This is why I say simply give control of chat and allow people to be in chats they want to be in. If you want to close all chats and not see what anyone says that should be available for you to do. If you want to see all chats that should also be available for you to do.

If you don't like what people say or don't want global chat close the window and never use it. But for guilds and social groups it is an important tool for finding new guild members or party members to run content with over feeling alone in the world unable to effectively find groups to play with that are right for you. As well for politics and knowing what is going on int he world, if someone needs to reach you, to trade with, etc its beneficial and just makes things feel more social always having a chance to talk to people Global, region, etc.

I hear I don't like global chat, I won't use global chat so no one should have it. That makes 0 sense to me. In a game that is this social, there should be every opportunity to communicate with people. This should go above bias of someone using it or not and simply allowing players to have their own choice on how they communicate.

YOU deal more message on discord than ingame because it is your choice to do this way. Because this is where discord will surpass any chat : the message is carried even if you are not logged in. Global chat won't make discord less usefull

Nobody complained of my guild management, and i had lot of speak with other guild leader... and not using global servers but... their or my guild server... But... guild chat is a basic features in anygame right so why do they needed forum and now discord ?

And global chat have also another issue : it is contrary to the philosophy of a large world with long travel time. who cares that 45 minute of travel from where they are, some people are gathering to do a dungeons ? ... the time of the travel, dungeon will be done.
Why would i care that 1h of travel away, a dude is selling 1000 log of tree?
A guild not so far ? ok fine, but the guild will ask me to join discord either way in the end, so change nothing. (and because not being far away, i can see their recruitment message in local chat)

And for being in large guild, while i am asking what "large" means... the largest i was in was in vanilla.
Then was always less than 50 people. And for AoC, i don't even try to find a guild yet... maybe i will do before release, for RP guild... not the kind of guild "large" ... and even more the kind of guild which communicate a lot outside of the guild to do some events.
but i know you are fast to decide for people what they are doing

Social doesnt mean no restriction on social trade. Restriction are part of social rules, "speaking" to other is not even, for me, making social bound, you do social bound with people you work to know better, which is more on the side of the limited area chat, where there are less people so better to know each other, such kind of social interaction are killed by too large area chat. Here is a second reason to not have global...

Node chat will probably be a thing, will see how it will really work due to node system (a t3 node can be included in a T4 node area, but also T5 or T6 node area... T6 node area being really large...hard to predict how "node chat" will exactly work. )

I'd like to see an adventures guild sign, that acts as a message board for lfg/lfm ui interface. You have to go to the board to access the chat or leave a post. lfg/lfr ui pop ups are really useful but turn mmos into lobby games, if you can just open them anywhere and ever more so if they teleport you to the dungeon.

This is where you are mistaken. By not having a global chat this forces people to interact more with the people around them. And yes all these issues can be overcome by simply using discord. Which IMO kinda sucks. And by the sounds of it will honestly give you an advantage. But for the people that want to play a game to you know... actually enjoy a game, and live in a game world and be immersed. Sorry but no global chat is the way to go. Especially for the long term health of a game of this type.

I'd be fine with a chat only reaches the distances of my voice. This is not practical because 3rd party software for communication. But more so I don't think a 10k person chat room is good in anyway except for gold sellers, trolls, spammers, ect. Large chats turns into a billboard or writing you see on a bathroom stall when you open it up to so many.

All this stuff you are bringing up won't change anything and simply have people using discord chat more than in game chat. This isn't the 2000's times are different. This sentiment of old days where everything is a mystery and you can only talk to certain people is long dead.

There will simply be a discord price check instead people will make, people will use discord for communication over in game for doing all those things when people make a discord for their server.

You aren't getting a more tight knit community, you are simply making it difficult to actually talk to people and connect in game and forcing people to simply use discord more instead. You are removing the community part out by reducing the people they can reach and actually forming those communities.

You don't get it because you haven't run guilds before. If you are jumping in a game and you have a mega guild you have a community that all uses discord. That communication is a huge advantage against any other guild. If I were to jump onto AoC with a 200 man guild with everyone communicating we would have a much easier time staying on top. Compared to some guild trying to recruit people and finding the game making it hard to actively advertise themselves reducing time they spend on the game to have to run around or sit in city and spam there.

It doesn't suck this is a mmo and a social game, this isn't real life using RP reasons to make the experience more difficult for the sake of rp is silly. Discord solves any issue and people will simply use that more and be taken away from the game interface for no reason.

If you are suggesting these kinds of things without understanding running a guild, you being a solo player, someone that will refuse to join guilds, a bit anti social...you are simply suggesting this out of selfishness wanting these kinds of anti social tendencies to be forced on people. Over giving people a choice on what they want to do.

/whisper 1 yard /low 3 yards /say 6 yards /loud 12 yards /shout 30 yards.
Nuanced: chat window only pops up dialogue that is well within range. Range of each of these can be increased and everything on the fringe of the range (last 20% or so) can be a chat bubble with a small color indicator and sound effect (like a coloration on the left or both sides if it's behind a person) that indicates someone is /whisper (purple), /low (blue), /say (green), /loud (yellow), /shout (orange) at end-range in a direction.
Slightly outside of range you can see the small chat text bubble but text is small at that range, and the bubble translucent.

And the mage crafting telecommunicator I suggest.

For voice chat some sort of modulation so it generally fits text range.

/say.slow -> 3 char per second; /say -> 5 char per second /say.fast -> 8 char per second.

Limit number of shout chars per minute to 80 or something.
Have new messages stop the previous from finishing.

Actually there should be base speed and a speed boost when using a series of consanants, like 50% speed boost.
With that in mind, 8 chars per second too fast lol. 3/5/6.5 chars per second.

Well 3/5/8 might be ok. 50% speed boost when consanants are together, space processed as a char. . . should be fine.

well a mage telecommunicator can have different ranges.
Large bulky long distance comms can be available at the same time as small shorter distance comms.
For cross-continent comms the node could have a building it can build.
Difficult top level rich people bulky comms could exist that can comm cross-continent, and top level rich handheld comms could exist that are whole-continent.

To elaborate further. . . you could need to build something at your homestead, set up a telescope and get to a high point in the region to capture the signal [with low and higher level version], have to "grab the signal" then send a limited message with a delay. . .
There could be all sorts of neat constraints to long distance comms.

Low to mid level comms especially could require you point something in the right direction.

When I say you that is to everyone in general with that mind set being anti social in a social type game, that things there shouldn't be global chat.

Running a small guild with your friends is not the same as running a competitive guild in a game that has OWPvP.

You disagree while not bringing up any substation points because there are none to stop people from being able to communicate with a global chat...If you don't like global chat don't use it, it won't affect your life bud.

Ah I get it with the competitive guild/ 3rd party issue. Solution could be a rule against it and GMs delivering debuffs to large guilds with 3rd party chat coordination such as visual distortions to the game and cries of the damned unmuting themself while tabbed into the game.

Alternatively they get put into some NPC faction that is at war with the rest of the world lol. A good faction and good game but still; having a hundred people coordinating out of game is like its own faction let's be real here.
They could choose nature's grove [anti-civ], corrupted (lol), or whatever. That would be its own game so that's not much of a solution to be honest.

Just a periodic debuff would suffice.

Then again aggressive mic grabbing could be easy to implement and fix the problem mostly lol
