Questions from a prospective customer

I've just a few questions before I buy and don't fancy trawling through a myriad of obnoxiously long youtube nonsense

- is there going to be tab-targeted combat or is it all skill based?
- does the game have a wholly PvP enabled world?
- will we be able to maintain multiple characters on one account?

I'd be coming over from New World, specifically because they're neglecting PvP despite having the potential for amazing open world PvP... i really want that open world PvP in MMO vibe. Am I in the right place?

It will be a hybrid combat system where you can choose to be more tab target focused or skill shot focused. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Combat

    - does the game have a wholly PvP enabled world?
Yes, to the extent that if you really wanted to you could attack players inside of towns, but with steep risk to yourself if you kill someone who does not fight back. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/PvP#Player_flagging

    - will we be able to maintain multiple characters on one account?

Hopefully this helps. If you have more specific questions either ask here or try the search box on the top right of that wiki. They have done a pretty good job of documenting things that have been stated by the developers.

I suggest you go to the Ashes Of Creation Wiki. All of the answers to your questions are there and so much more.

stupid duckduckgo... i should have found this myself.

The flagging system is a bit unfortunate, I worry it's going to be just like every other 'PvP' MMO then, an economy run by bots and a community infected with passive-aggressive nonsense.

What do you find unfortunate about the flagging system?

ghosts of christmas past perhaps, but I worry that this will lead to a similar PvP marginalization we see in New World where PvP is effectively an instanced minigame with little impact on day to day gameplay. While I understand the specter of griefing looms large in the minds of many MMO players, I fear the most exciting of gameplay loops are oft sacrificed to assuage a perhaps unfounded concern. That said, provided corruption levels can be removed without forcing character death it's not the end of the world.

That said, I just discovered that we're able to build ships (and be pirates!?!) on a lawless open sea... I am content to be a pirate at least.

Alpha 1 gameplay footage probably reflects how it'll be. Tab and Aim depending on ability.

I too hope Corruption doesn't stick around in its current form.
Penalties on death are relatively Harsh though.

Oh no no no. The difference between new world pvp and ash's of creation is that you cant toggle it off. Anyone at anytime can initiate a fight with you (exceptions are while you are in your personal trading stall and instanced housing/apartment.). They just get punished if they kill you and you did not fight back.
