Old ashes of creation footage..

can any one tell me where this footage is from?, its obviously '' ashes of creation'' but it was uploaded 6 years ago so pre a1, and im not sure what happened to this type of gameplay or class designs? were they just abandoned? this mage gameplay looks way better than what we have now, given needs some polish.., and miles ahead of alpha 1 even though it was recorded 3 years prior?, was this apoc?

It says right there that it's a pax west 2017 showcase. Tested by the press, as is evident by the nickname of the character.

The game moved on from this because this was a super basic vertical slice made purely to show off what the game is supposed to be on release. All of this is "fake", while A1 and the upcoming A2 are both much more of a game than this showcase ever was.

To me, increasing casting speed as a mage should be one of the options you can go for as you are leveling and gearing up.

There are situations where keeping a longer casting time but dealing more damage with each hit may be desired.

For a level 15 out of 50, I think the mage looks just fine.

Yes, it's a convention. Ashes was presented at several in the past and have panel videos on their channel.

I can sort of see what you mean. I wonder if this is the sort of thing that will be enabled with augments. Maybe for example Rogue could have an "Evasion" school of Augmentation, that does things like lower cast times, increase movement speed while casting, maybe even allow dodge rolls while casting. In general I imagine the schools of augmentation will have augments sprinkled throughout that could add some fluidity.

I dont think the recent mage showcases had slow pace gameplay. Most of the skills were instant. With few that had cast time. Obviously those with cast time have bigger dmg so you may see Steven use them more in PVE situations. But the mage is not Ranger. So ofc he will have some spells with cast time.

For example the Warclock from WOW WOTLK expansion had 3 of his most important skills as cast time. And you cant rely on using only instant casts since your dmg will be 0. But even so the gameplay was fast paced and dynamic.

I completely disagree, the current gameplay is vastly superior to what’s shown in that old video.

The footage you’re referring to, which was uploaded around 6 years ago, is from the very early stages of Ashes of Creation’s development, likely pre-alpha. During that time, the game was still in its conceptual phase, and a lot of what you see in that video was experimental.

Why the Current Gameplay is Better:

Enhanced Graphics and Performance: The graphics and performance have significantly improved. What might look like "better" in older footage can often be attributed to nostalgia or the novelty of initial reveals, but the current state of the game showcases a more polished and technically sound experience.

Sadly some people are like if you can move and attack = gameplay is better. Even if it looks older and not better clearly. As ive said before there is a pattern with this poster being negative in a weird way or if it doesn't look like wow it doesn't look good to them.

This kind of post does 200% better if they don't reference older videos and tries to make an argument to include more mobility in the combat of the game.

I sort of can see where op is coming from.
There is something about the chopiness, smoothness and the way its grounded that makes it look decent.

But i dont think this kind of combat would work with the current iteration of AoC.
Back then the game looked cartoonish, leaning towards wow graphics.
I think this pax combat iteration feels good for the same reason wow combat feels good, its snappy, responsive and smooth. The reason why it feels like that is mostly because of the character animations and the vfx.

But here is the thing... if you would put wow animations into a modern game it would hilarously bad.
The only reason why these choppy and snappy animations work in wow is that the game´s graphics facilitate that -> choppy animations + cartoon graphics look visually believable and coherent.
Choppy animations + UE5 graphics look like a cheap asset flip á la Quinfall.

A big part of the video were the utility abilities of the classes. I totally forgot that was a thing. Hopefully that is still a focus for intrepid at some point

Great points mate, I agree you couldn't put wows animations into a new game, usually if I reference visuals I don't mean so much the graphics I just mean how things look immersive it's hard to explain lol, wow does. A great job of making the world feel alive with terrible graphics

Also I am curious, I did not even mention wow, I was curious why it looked better than alpha 1 when it was years prior, which it indeed does, I would say it does not look as good as recent live streams/ alpha 2 footage

well like i said in the post if you bothered to read it properly, i was asking for information as to where the footage was from, i was stating it looked better than A1 footage, also as i said in the above post it is all relative, so to some it may look better and some it may look worse, either way i am entitled to my own opinion, and if you can't handle that, go and read something else

Ya everyone can have an opinion doesn't mean its correct. The more worse the take the more effort on your part to try to defend it.

You are try to work it better than alpha 1 when there is large time frame as far as Alpha 1 is concerned which leads up to alpha 2. You clearly have some other motive here bringing it up in relation to current design as I'm fairly certain you have been complaining about a ton of gameplay (pretty much all your post are generally negative).

You don't' add any actual substance to your post, but ill take you seriously this time.

Please describe what is actually MILES ahead of that old gameplay compared to alpha 1. Also please explain what stage of alpha 1 you are talking about (Pre alpha 1, playable alpha 1, post alpha 1 test with mage update).

If you are talking strictly old alpha 1 gameplay, again i hugely disagree with you saying it miles ahead as alpha 1 gameplay looks better mmorpg wise

I's also have to ask why is the relevant to anything ashes of creation or even a good topic. As alpha 1 was not a content test as said multiple times. This goes back to your last topic on suggesting they are using a different engine, i feel you don't understand the term alpha and are trying to think of it as more of a beta.
