I'm just thinking out loud here (as I didn't write the software of course) but what can cause major hitching of several seconds is when the system is cashing out data in and out of memory with a swap file on the drive. This can happen often in games themselves, moving textures around in and out of video memory (just 1 example). This happening in the launcher is interesting as the launchers seems like it's browser based (someone can correct me if I'm mistaken). I can easily see this happening if you had an old mechanical drive or an ssd; an nvme should be fine though. At 500GB what percentage of the drive is empty? Like I said just trying to think of ideas, nothing more.
