Moving Nodes - say good-bye to storage

I've found on several of my toons, when you drop citizenship; I not only lost the citizenship storage; but the 1g expansion storage and everything in it. I did this on my main and alts. After the first time, i removed all the items from the extra slots. But i had to sell stuff.

Is this not an intended function? Isn't the citizenry slot only for Citizens? If you drop citizenship you lose citizen rights?

    Sounds reasonable doesn't it.

There should be a warning that you will lose items in Storage.

    There is.

I mean if you don't pay your storage rent your stuff gets auctioned IRL, so it's a solid mechanic. BUT if you take a month break you should at least get some time to pay your taxes before you're exiled. And a big warning to pay your taxes or you'll lose your citizenship and perks.

No it isn't reasonable. Loss of access does not imply destruction of the stored items. Depending on your "luck" and the bug which affects it you can permanently lose items in "some" of your storage containers. Intrepid initially promised to refund the lost stuff to affected people, but quickly gave up on the idea. I would imagine restoring database backups would take too much time.

As some suggested elsewhere, there might be also a problem with bugs waterfalling into each other in this case. A lot of people recently reported that they couldn't pay their taxes, which can result in loss of citizenship. I can only imagine this could result in that bug triggering this one.

Character persistence should have been priority one for someone at Intrepid since we ran into first issues with storage in Phase1.

You don't lose your items. You just lose access to them. If you become a citizen again you will gain access to those slots with the items still in them.

Most games go with a "lose access to deposit, but you can still withdraw" when losing access to storage.

Admittedly, that's kinda game-able (become citizen, load up a bunch of stuff, drop citizenship) but a lot better than dealing with all the tickets that are going to happen when losing access due to citizen storage due to not paying dues or changing nodes.

A good middle solution might be that: If you have stuff in Citizen storage of a node and are no longer a Citizen, you cannot add items to any storage of that node, including the publicly available storage.
