Tab Targeting Feature Request

Hello,

Simple request here, regarding how tab targeting works. There was a previous game I played back in 2008 which was very pvp focused. I had the same issues i am having now, but the solution they provided was below.

Simply put, wherever the mouse pointer is sitting on your screen, tab will select the closest taget to it.

This was great for switching targets using tab without adding in any extra clicks, simply a movement of the mouse pointer.

That is all!
Thanks,

What did lmk do in that game? I'm just curious why would you need a whole separate button to pick a target when the lmk is right there on the pointer that you just used to point out your target.

And if you're suggesting that we should be able to fully select targets in a better and smoother way when we're in action mode - I wholehearedly agree. I played tank in action mode 95% of the time and it was an utter pain to try and select targets with tab.

I am not talking about action combat.

The idea is there is no seperate button to pick your target, you just use tab as normal. The only difference is your mouse pointer dictates what tab target it selected purely by where it is sitting on your screen.

Making it more predictable and accurate on what tab target is selected.

I think it was Neverwinter Online that had similar tab targeting, it's been so long that I can't remember correctly, but it also had the "action" mode by default and I loved it. Love it in Ashes, would love to be able to tab target better while tanking. Having it tab at whatever the center of my screen is pointed at, not relative to my character's LoS would be a godsend for tight pulls.

Again though, what is stopping you from using your lmk to pick the target? That's what L2 did and that seems to be what Steven wants you to do, considering that in tab mode Q is your basic attack button, instead of lmk.

Doing that is waaaaay faster and easier than making a move with your hand but then picking the target with your other hand, while also taking your finger off of movement keys.

    Muscle memory difference.

Then this just comes down to keybinding options. And I'd imagine we'll be able to rebind "select target". Dunno if we already can, cause haven't checked.

Either way, I still want better and smoother experience when selecting target in action mode, Intrepid!

For me i'll do everything not to left click the mouse, i could almost just flick a mouse movement slap tab and i'm good. At least on this other game i am talking about. You can also be far less accurate with you mouse, as it would select the target closest to your mouse pointer.

For example, there are three targets in front of you (left middle and right). You want to get 100% positve target on the left target. Just move mouse to the left of screen (anywhere) and boom you're done. It gives good feedback in my opinion.

Yes you can left click sure, but what i'm saying is it has been implemented in other games i've played, and it worked well from my experiance.

What game is that? I'm just curious about the zoom distance for it, cause from what you're saying it definitely seems like it was fairly close. Also, what about the size of fights?

I get your point and I do expect changeable keybindings, but your description of "just click wherever on the left side of the screen" won't happen. If anything, I expect way tighter hitboxes cause the current ones are already waaaay too big for what the game is going for.

In any fight that's bigger than 20 people on each side, ya ain't "slapping anywhere on the side of the screen" if you want to pick the correct target.

Bigger fights no not so much. As someone has already said it's muscle memory.

    The game was RF-Online.
