Character Names

Ashes of Creation has the potential to be one of the most immersive MMORPGs ever created. That said, I believe there’s room for improvement in the way characters are named. While this may not matter to everyone, I think it would significantly enhance the immersion for players who want to feel like they’re part of the world, not just playing as an avatar, like in league of legends.

I propose, or request if it hasn’t already been considered, that characters should be able to have a first name, a last name, and a nickname. This would give players more flexibility and realism in how they identify themselves in the game world. For example, a character could have their full name displayed when interacting with NPCs or other players, and their nickname could be used in more casual interactions, giving a deeper sense of identity to the character.

Some players might still attempt to troll the system with silly or inappropriate names, the introduction of a more structured naming system would at least make it more obvious when players are intentionally undermining the experience. It would also give those who want a more immersive roleplaying experience a clear option to do so without interference.

Additionally, this system could work well with the title system, allowing for even more dynamic and personalized experiences. Players’ full names could be used in different settings, giving them an opportunity to feel more connected to the world and the story.

I'm not sure they have fully worked out naming conventions given people paid for the right to reserve a name of their choice, which other than blatant offensive language, should be allowed.

That’s an interesting idea! Having a first name, last name, and a nickname could definitely add some extra flavor to character identity, especially for roleplayers. It would also make in-game interactions feel a bit more natural.

That said, there are a few things to consider:

🔹 Players have already reserved unique names, so any changes would need to respect that.
🔹 The title system already allows for some personalization—maybe expanding on that could be a way to achieve a similar effect?
🔹 More name fields might not stop people from picking silly names, but it could make them easier to spot.

For now, there haven’t been any announcements about changes to the naming system, as the team is currently focused on core gameplay and functionality.

I admit i don't need to see Character Names like " Long Dong Silver " or " Longest Schlong " or whatever. :D

There is only so much Moments, Seconds, Occasions and so on where it is still funny -> and where the Joke becomes old fast and it's only annoying and immature from there on. ;)

The cringe I feel for the people when I see something like McEdgyGAMING or some other social media plug makes we want to put them on ignore, I normally do. Or a barcode name like IIIIIlllIIllIllIlIl, at least a barcode name I get that warning that their a jerk and probably going to try ganking me or someone else pretty soon.

But don't under estimate the RP dedication of someone with a goofy name.

I would love this kind of potential for immersion. I also believe names should not be unique, as they are not in real life, but Ashes won't be able to do that because of name reservations. Too bad.

Still, I would love the ability to have a first and last name, as well as an optional nickname. That would be awesome.
