Multiboxing - Cap at 2 - 6 Characters? - Can we please have clarification if this will be allowed?

GigibytesGigibytes Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
Hi there. I know this post will cause a lot of anger from you multibox haters but have you ever stopped to think that this is the the style that some gamers prefer and that they might have their reasons for legitimately wanting to multibox?

Reasons some people multibox include:
awesome challenge trying to complete a dungeon on your own
lifestyle (unable to join regular groups due to lifestyle ie work, family etc, frequent AFKing),
social reasons (prefers to play slow, at their own pace due to bad experiences grouping with others)

Many people lump 'bots' in with 'multiboxers', which is like saying any single character is a 'bot', because it could be, right?

My thoughts on it are Yes, allow Multiboxing, but perhaps you restrict it to either 2 to 6 Characters Max.

I have seen earlier conversions where it seemed like it may be allowed. Could we please have an official response from Intrepid as to whether it will be or not?

Intrepids stance on multiboxing has already been discussed
    here.

No word on a cap for how many accounts, but if you read the discussion you will come to realize that this wouldn't be the issue that matters.
  • as a multiboxer in EVE, I saw I like it a lot for many reasons, specially for running small tasks far away, scouting and pvp
PvE means: A handful of coins and a bag of boredom.

    bruh really. 6 characters?xD
you really gonna play yourself on 6 computers? (or 5 sandboxies or something)
so you just gonna agro something, then press q on 4 characters and then stay on healer?

just party whenever you can, there will always be people for it. there are good experiences and bad experiences, but im sure playing just 1 character will be more optimal.

also, no soloing dungeons in ashes. there arent instance dungeons yet (dungeons are open world), then dungeons will be cooperative-competitive afaik whenever we get the instanced ones. you wanna keep all the loot for yourself? XD

It's a dick move not allowing the same computer to run multiple paid clients given how powerful today's PCs are and how expensive hardware has become, just say'in....

all true - but where is the fresh concept in game play approach (not to mention fewer subs from the sweaty people who go for this type of thing)

If we're talking about concepts of gameplay, then perhaps you need to take another look at the concept of a group-based MMO? The idea isn't to just solo through everything yourself.

It can be fun to solo but at the same time having the living world around you and also interacting with other players around you. Soloing doesn't mean you never interact, it's just you may prefer to solo, most of the time, for whatever reasons.

Look I'm a fully grown adult now, I don't have to hold hands with other people to do stuff in life or or in a video game to have fun or progress. I have been in a pretty hard core guild in Ashes previously, and it wasn't for me. Then I was in another 'more casual' guild, and 'you have to vote for bla bla' 'you have to have this tag on you in discord' 'you have to this, you have to that... ' 'you have to have an interview (to get into the guild). I'm over all that stuff. I do as I'm told at work, I just want to chill out when I'm playing a video game and do what I want to do. I'm an introvert that likes to have others gamers around me .... sometimes and I play at my own pace.

What if Someone wants a Freehold but doesn't want to team up with someone else to get it ?

Sounds like at least 2 Multiboxers will be able to team up to have/hold one. And only whole Guilds be able to stand against their accumulated Wealth or other Factors to hold the Freehold over other Candidates.

Not the actual point, some people like being able to trade among toons without delay, especially crafter toons, otherwise, people find multi-boxing a very challenging form of gameplay which often includes other players but helps to fill in group makeup gaps, such a a missing healer/buffer.

Just go play a solo game.
The anti social community is getting out of hand with their entitled stance on a MMO…
Let’s remind them what that actually means.
Find a solo game to ruin your self into oblivion.
Please stop trying to come here and showing your emo kid I gotta be alone downy inspirations.
Go play another game this ones not for you.

I mean, this statement on its face shows that you don't understand the restrictions that are being put into place. Multiboxing would not be a way for you to "accumulate wealth" at a pace faster than someone else solo. If you are using a single keystroke to automate actions across multiple clients, you are going to get dinged for it.

Excuse me? The quality of your response demonstrates actually why I prefer to solo. Lol, how about you don't try and tell me what I should and shouldn't do? Also I'm so sick of the closed minded crowd saying 'this games not for you.....' . The game is evolving and I have as much right as you to use the forums and express my viewpoint.

Also, I find you calling me an 'emo kid I gotta be alone downy inspirations' actually very offensive.

Fair enough. I think a healthy MMO world should be diverse and consist of all kinds of people and all kinds of play styles :)

If I thought this game was 'not for me' well I wouldn't have bought the Alpha 1 and I wouldn't take the time to read or post in the forums.

Really, the only person who know's if something is for you or not, is yourself.

you have stated the very reason no one would want to play with you.
I’m sorry you’re fragile and take offense to facts being said.
Your solo game play and fragile self brain rot should not be pushed on others.
I don’t agree with your style of game play

    I think it’s cheating
To see a ball of chars all just roll by with one person controlling them..
Do you actually think that’s a healthy game play style?
To say I do it cause I don’t wanna play with others is even more disgusting and shows brain damage.

Like the game is ment to be played!!
    It’s a multi player game.
Go play pet the kitty if you’re offended by people that much.
It offends me you would say such a thing.

social reasons (prefers to play slow, at their own pace due to bad experiences grouping with others)

As a multiboxer I have to say allowing multiboxing in Ashes will break it. The game just doesn't have room for it. It's already a pretty niche design with their concept of PvX, splitting the focus between PvPers and PvEers, if they were to add in multiboxers it'll break not only the PvE content but also the PvP content. It breaks it in other games too but the consequences here would be even worse. Allowing this play style would bleed more players than it brought in. Imagine you're running around gathering and not only do you get ganked but you get ganked by a multiboxer, talk about insult to injury... the PvE crowd is already on the fence about the game, this would just push them away. Looks like their not going to allow this anyways, which is the right choice.

I do agree there a legit reasons to multibox. I found it really fun clearing dungeons. Even brought my group into a raid and that was interesting lol. PvP was fun, but i'd fight other multiboxers. Fighting a single player was pointless. Overall though multiboxing goes against the spirit of the mmos. I'll do it if allowed, but prefer it not be a thing.

Endless chains of bots just running boxes all behind one player
How some one can not see the issues with this most likely can’t see past their own nose and there’s probably good reason why they want to play alone..mostly cause no one want to play with some one like that.
I’m glad an actual multiboxer understands the damage this can do and can point it out to the not so fortunate people.

It's ok that you don't agree with that play style Slayven.

Fyi, myself, I would only be playing 2 AoC characters at once, since a separate PC is required for each game client. Until you have tried this yourself, you have no idea how challenging it can be to do it and what an easy target multiboxed characters (played the legitimate way) would be for PvP'ers.. which I think, could add an extra element of fun! It's not cheating, if it's allowed. Your personal attack comments are quite disgusting, for reason's I don't need to explain to you.

Harsh and savage as frikk but i can understand completely.

Sir Steven and his mighty Crew should. NEVER. BACK. DOWN. on this. -> if you truly want to experience all Contents in the Game -> then being part of a Guild is M.A.N.D.A.T.O.R.Y.

The Case that if You are a single Player in Verra -> and get "dragged/carried along" by huge Groups raiding/sieging Nodes -> or doing other Content You need Dozens or Hundred of Players for,

THAT Case should be the Exception. Not the Normalcy. So while of Course Nobody can technically "force" People to band together in huge Guilds and gain some serious Advantages over playing alone,

-> it should be greatly encouraged to do so. GREATLY being the dominant Word here. Alone for the neat Bonusses/Buffs you can get from being Part of certain kinds of Groups.

It wasn't fact, you stated an opinion.

By definition, opinions are not facts.

While i agree that people should never be offended by facts, it is perfectly valid for someone to judge you as not someone they wish to spend time with based on the opinions you share.

This isn't anything that should be held against those making that judgement. In fact, the world would likely be better off if more people accurately judged people they are better off not spending time with, and then proceeded to not spend time with them.
