Individual people, perhaps.
However, a games community is mostly shaped by the developer themself. A developer that is open and honest with it's players will have a significantly better community than a developer that is neither of those things.
In fact, you can usually tell the communication stance of a given games team based on the community the game has.
So, what does a salty, beaten-down and ignored community say about them?
Generally salty people are salty because they have not recieved what they expected to recieve. Sometimes this is the fault of an individual not setting their expectations well. However, if it is a whole community, you can't blame each individual member of that community, but rather you need to look at where their expectations came from in the first place.
Being beaten down is a result of recieving negative/harmful treatent time after time. Being ignored is self-explanitary.
So, that the community is being ignored repeatedly, while the game in question doesn't resemble that which was promised.
Did you ever get any answers?
Almost everything asked about is very broad strokes questions. Some of it touches things under tuning, some of them are open-ended questions, some seem to be on philosophical vision of the game, and some have been answered as best the devs already know and available on the wiki.
Also, berating them for not answering after asking to narrow down the scope into something that doesn't require a few pages of text to answer isn't going to be very helpful for either playtesters or devs.
Personally I think it’s the lack of intrepid seeming to implement our feedback, combined with almost zero interaction from Intrepid’s team that makes it feel so frustrating.
At this point I think the forum just wants to know what they do with the feedback they get because it doesn’t seem like it’s being used.
The proposed open developement feels very sealed off when the only interaction we ever get with the dev team is impromptu questions the pick from the live stream. I would have given some credit if they picked one of the questions from OP post, even if it was just we are planning to work on this later but are blocked by this and this.
I don't control other peoples responses or comments. The devs can respond to the questions or not. If they don't I take it as they don't have an answer, they don't have a plan for it, or there are bigger issues they are dealing with.
Please give me an example of an open ended question I asked. I think they would all be easy to answer if they had an answer. If you have an answer to one of them please link the source.
Parsing and responding to the forums is not a hard task and is even easier using some type of AI to help parse. The forums don't have that much activity, collecting the questions and answering them shouldn't be hard. It's just probably not a priority, maybe they spend more time on discord or reddit.
And now tiktok too...
XD XD XD. I get wanting to advertise your game everywhere, but there should limits.
Sigh
