Thanks, Steven. I really appreciate all the hard work you’ve put in to make our MMO dreams a reality. Best of luck, and thanks again.
I want to know who the 'Board' is. For the longest time Steven was the Board - I didn't realize he had lost control of his own company.
I’m deeply disappointed by the recent decisions made at the board level of Intrepid Studios and the impact those decisions have had on Ashes of Creation. What has happened feels like the loss of a project that had the potential to reshape the entire MMORPG genre.
This game wasn’t just another title in development. It was a vision—ambitious, innovative, and built with a level of passion that’s rare in this industry. Years of work, creativity, and dedication from incredibly talented developers went into building this IP. Seeing that effort derailed by corporate decision-making is heartbreaking. Thought, care, and proper support was not given to the product or to the PEOPLE!!!
I want to express my respect and sympathy for Steven Sharif and the developers who poured themselves into this project. Their passion was obvious, and the community saw it. Whatever the future holds, their work mattered, and it inspired a lot of people.
While I’m frustrated and dissatisfied with the direction chosen by those in control, my frustration is aimed at the decisions—not the people who tried to build something extraordinary. I hope every developer affected lands somewhere they’re valued and supported, and I hope Steven continues to create with the same vision and integrity he showed throughout this journey. I am just heartbroken that it will not be Ashes……Steven, this was a WINNER !!!!!
For many of us, Ashes of Creation wasn’t just a game. It was a promise. Losing that hurts.
It is almost like there " is - SOMETHING " … … … … … something … … … … … "Someone" - is out there. Someone truly HELLBENT on preventing that "western Gamers" will EVER have true Fun again in their whole Lifes - in a VideoGame. "SOMEONE" - who wants to ruin the Entertainment Industry as much as possible - and wants to inflict as much lasting Damage as possible. Sadly, Guys, there is a VERY REALISTIC CHANCE - that this here is not Paranoia what i just wrote here. It is also BY NO MEANS - a COINCIDENCE - that it started in the Entertainment Industry Years later, after "Anti-Western" (anti-white) Rhetoric became ever more and more popular and spoken with more and more Boldness and Audacity, and that suddenly People started to show up - > who INTENTIONALLY RUINED - and in fact mostly destroyed, many big Franchises which brought Fun into the Lifes of western People. - Star Wars - Star Trek - Witcher - Marvel - Lord of the Rings - and many more. There is One - "ONE" realistic Chance here that Sir Steven did this only for financial Reasons and that he had no other Choice. AND IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE !!! → then "WHO" are these People who forced Steven to resign and put the Existence of Ashes of Creation as a coming MMO into Jeopardy ? WELL ????? 😉 😉 Which probably Activist-Pieces of Shite with a Hatred for western Men and western People might be involved ? I CAN'T WAIT to roll my Eyes back and don't be surprised. Ashes is not just an MMO that could come into the World. It is a possible " GAME-CHANGER " that could strip the disgusting monopoly of Worst of Whorecraft from Cucktivision Lizzard and restore a bit of Balance to the MMO Market again. Now ? What now ?? Are we now demanded to expect that everyone will get back to that horrible, butchered Slop of a once great MMO - once AGAIN ?? Like FOR REAL ? " For REAL for real " ??? (lol) Is this now the stupid Shit that We are now demanded to expect until the end of our Lifes ? 😉" Ooops, Sorry, heheheheh ! " - 😅" Another good MMO could have been born ! " - 🤭" We can't have THAT happening, now can we ? " - 😏" Not that You lot could ever have some actual and great " FUN " again - one more f~in time in your Life !! " " With like, you know ? " " An MMO which would "NOT" get freakin' butchered and cancelled One to a few Years after it's Appearance !! " " Better kill it RIGHT NOW, because otherwise we might get DANGEROUSLY. CLOSE. to make an actually real FUN-BANGER of an Alpha towards Beta-State, right ?? "* sigh * … … … ^.^ * s~iiiiiigh * … … … ^.^;" You know what's not good ? That now that i am Fourty Years old → and now that i have OBSERVED great Video Game Series' of several Franchises, somehow always either "ruining themselves", - ruining their STORYLINE somehow, - or trying to force me onto that filthy stinkpiece called "The CONSOLE", - or becoming a thoroughly boycotted piece of woke Garbage, - or becoming cancelled, - or becoming half-assed, half-unfinished, mediocre Stuff, - and what else all for Reasons it fell short in the most pathetic ways, between the Likes of 2007 to now, i am very confident i have been WAAAY MORE OFTEN being absolutely disappointed and in fact even betrayed in my Expectations → than not. What IS this ? What even " IS " this ?? 😅 Is the WORLD ITSELF trying to signal to me, that Human Beings are pathetic Bunglers and Incompetents and get nothing done anymore ?!?!?!? Was World of Warcraft during Vanilla to Cataclysm maybe just an "ACCIDENT" and actually far too much Fun for normal Human Standarts ??? And i didn't even play ArcheAge when Sir Steven or HiddenDaggerInn loved it so much. Damn i think i missed something good. 😅 I refuse to believe, i freakin' " REFUUUSE " - > to believe that this all just a Coincidence and that there is no - -ILL WILL - - behind this.
Hell, i would truly not even be surprised in the least if the usual Suspects for ugly, eternally virginal Losers are behind this. 😅 🤣
Steven will just walk away from this with all our money, he scammed us all and we shouldn't let him walk way from this without trying to get it back
same. i wanna know too. ashes was going to be THE mmorpg. but steven quitting killed the game for the gamers, unless he revives it somehow? maybe under another name? idk
For a number of my friends, Ashes of Creation was their livelihood.
Quite honestly, you can shut the fuck up complaining about a broken promise.
I get why people are pissed and feel cheated. It stings for me too, though it’s not about the money. It’s about a game that’s never going to happen, even though it had so much potential.
I CAAAAAAAAAAAN'T - impossibly be the only Person who thinks : Ummm, well ? Guys ?Will Someone PLEASE THINK ABOUT THE GRID-SERVER TECHNOLOGY AND SAVE IT, PLEASE ??????? 😅 😅 😅
Don't worry about it.
It isn't exactly revolutionary or anything. Should someone come along with a game design that needs something like it, they will just develop it themselves.
I mean, if nothing else, the people that made it to the point it is currently at are for hire…
Grid server technology never made any sense to begin with. It suffers from multiple design failures; What happens when too many players are at corner of a grid cell? IT will have to divide endlessly and spawn hundreds of servers to divide region. Each server creating proxy actors will put just as much load on individual servers and still end up being limited by single node performance on dense battles.
Instead of wasting energy working on tech that is fundementally flawed they should have went old-school single node server style with modern hardware that has over 300 cores in single node to achieve scale.
But since you are worried about this, Epic Games (makers of Unreal) are already working on similar server meshing tech for Unreal Engine. Needless to say, with their endless resources and engineering expertise they will do much better job than Intrepids grid servers. And since it is being built onto Unreal it won't be exclusive to one company.
Since "the old way" of doing it was that the game world was divided up in to chunks, and each chunk given its own hardware node, trying to allocate hardware powerful enough to handle the size combat Ashes was supposed to have, to each chunk of the world the size Verra was supposed to be would have been prohibitively expensive.
Did you even read his entire post? It was actually quite nice.
Seems like you are just a butt-hurt little bitch. Crymoar little bitch.
Hey fuckwit.
So, the post I replied to that made you post the above was me explaining to someone complaining about them having a "promise" borken that it really doesn't mean shit. Anyone that things the game, or their refund, or a promise, or anything like that is important in the fact of several hundred people losing their livelihood, without even getting their final paycheck let alone getting PTO that is owed, their 2 months pay they are supposed to get when being laid off, or even more than a few minutes notice of all of this happening really is a selfish prick.
It doesn't matter how nicely you write that you feel like a promise has been broken, the fact that that is the issue you have means you can go fuck a goat.
The fact that you would reply to someone pointing this out to another, calling them a "butt-hurt little bitch" means that you are in a catagory even lower down than that. It means you are the worst that Western CIvilization can produce in terms of absolute cʉnts.
Every person you have ever seen in your life, as well as those you have not seen, is a better example of humanity than you are.

Bah, this new forum is shit. Just imagine there's a funny gif there.
I think you are missing my point, even with dynamic gridding, hardware won't hold. You simply cannot have the "size of combat Ashes was supposed to have". A meshing tech that relies on proxy actors does not scale linearly, it scales logarithmically. Only linear scaling you can get out of servers is simply by having more powerful hardware. Any form of vertical scaling hits logarithmic scaling limits and very fast unless you do it WoW style (can't see players on other nodes)
This is why, when making game design, you simply cannot be idealistic and ignore how underlying hardware will operate (like what AoC did and what Star Citizen is doing right now). Your game design needs to revolve around hardware and tech limitations. I'd rather have an MMO that can support 200v200 guild wars that actually ends up releasing and working fine instead of an MMO that was supposed to support 5000v5000 but only implodes during Alpha. This is why Albion succeeded, because instead of chasing fancy tech dreams that are inherently flawed, they designed everything around hardware.
I also think you are vastly overestimating how much it costs to have powerful processors nowadays. Fastest CPU you can buy for this right now is AMD EPYC 9755, that goes around for 13K$. That is the kind of processor that won't sweat holding 5.000 players on a single node and that is a very conservative estimate. Compared to sub-fee those players will pay for month (completely ignoring that they won't even be online 7/24) it is cheap AF. And obviously once you purchase it will run for a decade with less than 1% failure rate.
