Tavern-Game Leaderboards: a Plus or a Minus?

Am really hoping to see something like this for the to-be tavern games, especially since it feels as though a lot of us are expecting at least 1 card-game, such as the TCG that one of the fans has made, or a card-game akin to The Witcher's.

Would really like for us to know who the top players are for these games, so you can double-take when you see their names in this-or-that tavern. Would really like to challenge some of the top people and occasionally take a win, for bragging rights!

Or would this encourage players to be "slaves" to the tavern-games? (I.e. Would it detract from encouraging players from experiencing other elements of the game?)

The two top players on the card game platform my team built generally found it frustrating or annoying to be recognizable in this way.

The other three, during their various times at the top, didn't seem to treat it as a positive, more neutral or slightly annoyed.

I don't think that at any point, anyone who wanted to be #1 that seemed to think it would be a positive, actually managed to reach that level. Maybe that one guy for a few days, but that could have been 'luck'.

This isn't to say 'this would be a negative', the community type would probably be different. Just adding what little context I can.

Those who do not win the arena battles which makes them Mayors, should get their little alternatives.
Each tavern should have it's own leader-board, destroyed at siege.
If a player goes corrupt often might get the benefits of being hunted more often. Maybe their names should be red :)

I would say make it optional maybe, and maybe keep it local per tavern. I may want to finesse somebody at a game I excel at or vice versa, but if they can just look up my record of how good I am without needing to test me, lame interaction.

I think having these rankings on a per tavern basis would be fine. It should follow the same localization policy as auction houses.

And I say have leaderboards both local and server-wide. Just give players the ability to change their name to "Anonymous", if they want.

Even Palia has a leaderboard for its mini-game. It's the only "pvp" in that game.

Server wide anything (unless achieved through nodes) shouldn't be a thing. Node wide would be ok.

I feel any leaderboard should be based in the taverns within the node. It should require a certain node level as well.

The reason for this is I want things local community based.

Whats the point of a player list when you don't know them, and likely won't?

A fun thing would a World Championship around the tavern game. I could be a part of whatever 'yearly' festival Vera has.
The top 2 of every lvl xx node are invited to compete at the metropolis that the hosts the Festival that 'year'.

I don't have anything against leaderboards at various levels (tavern, node, serverwide), as long as you can opt out.

Leaderboards need to be reset if the rules of the game change in a way that makes scores lower though

    I also support this idea.

The rewards for tavern games can be dialed in so that players still treat it as a side activity.

That way, they don't become the "slaves" described in the OP.

The sum of the thread's responses seems to be that we should have leaderboards, but having your name show on them should be optional. While yours truly wouldn't mind his name in lights for being in the top 10 at a tavern-game, I can understand the desire for anonymity.

Would also favor both a server-wide, as well as a local leaderboard. The latter would allow for local renown and prestige, since we can't all be in-competition with the true addicts that would make the server-wide leaderboards.

I think it's a good idea for tavern, node, and server leaderboards, It's just for fun after all. If people want to play it competitively, that's completely up to them. I don't see that as being a valid reason to exclude them from the game. They could even have player hosted tournaments in taverns or events for specific games and title unlocks. Maybe a grand games event once a year.

Nope :) You can request stuff and players will just give those mats to you. It's a super cooperative game.

Playing it? It's a super grindy soloable game and I don't have anything to grind until Genshin's 4.0 patch comes out.

Leaderboards seem like a simple game play aspect that most players ignore but some really enjoy so why not?

Whatever it is, I hope the games will be played for gold and the bets will be unlimited :D

Interesting thought-starter! A twist to this idea could be each individual tavern keeper keeping track of their patron's wins/losses! May not be a good idea, but figured I'd add it to the conversation here! :)

Ok - building on this - then every month there can be a regional tavern player competition and at some point have a "Nationals" for all top regional leaderboard players, and a fun/frustrating aspect could be that a regional leaderboard winner would actually lose their ranking if the node gets destroyed, maybe on purpose to clear the field! (oh... the pain.. so close yet so far..)
