Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
1. All cutscenes should feature high-quality voice acting. (Consider the standard set by Baldur's Gate 3.) 2. Each cutscene must have a clear objective and purpose that advances the storyline or quest. 3. Avoid cutscenes where characters or heroes excessively complain or mope. 4. Cutscenes should be short, yet powerful and… -

Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
I love cutscenes, I think GW2 and FFXIV did a great way of including the PC in the majority of scenes making us the player feel more part of the story rather than a passenger to a ride. It definitely doesn't need to be Baldurs Gate 3 depth, but having our characters be a party to what is happening is the most important… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
I skip most MMO cutscenes unless: 1. It's at the beginning/end of the game 2. It's at the beginning/end of a dungeon 3. Has my glorious character and party members in it. If a cutscenes has me and my party in it, I'll always watch to take screenshots and see how others showoff their armor and character customization… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
I usually skip them in MMO because: 1. I am simply not used to them in an MMO. Cutscenes are more of a single players games thing to me. 2. They are poorly written (full of cliches) with dreadful voice acting 3. Majority of cutscenes are in the raids, so after several runs they tend to become annoying. Especially after you… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
Cutscenes are important in a morpg. Personally, I would only include them in the main story to pack in some of the lore. Many people skip the texts, but cutscenes have their own charm. Cutscenes need tensions and moments that no one expects. A friend dies, a town is destroyed or what was good suddenly turns bad by the… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
Obviously them being voiced is the biggest one. I do like reading lore/quests, but sometimes it's just too much of a chore. Them looking pretty or be animated is definitely a plus, but not required. Them showing characters that I know and have talked to before (or that have been referenced in lore) is also big. I very… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
Cut scenes are very important in an mmorpg! I like them personally when it explains the lore... What past events have happened in this area or to this person? This can create a desire to help them or to defeat them based off of lore, cut scenes, etc. Music in the background is also important. Nothing like a good melody in… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
1. If there is no voice acting or bad voice acting I'm going to skip. 2. There needs to be meaningful choices that effects the outcome or a reason for the dialog in the first place. 3. If the dialog/story is interesting. Best cutscenes by FAR are from Knights of the Old Republic. The sheer amount of meaningful dialog…
