Re: Hard cap for Node citizens count
I agree that this would probably be better for balance, but I also think it would lead to a lot more negative behaviour and the type of friction that isn't necessarily good for the game.
So I'm not opposed to it, I just expect it to cause things I don't like. If they find a way to avoid those, no problem to me.

Re: First impression
sounds like some in here are disappointed in the lack of progress Intrepid's made. I actually wouldn't disagree with you.
but my point (and I'm surprised this needs to be clarified) is if you're comparing an alpha state game where the content and systems have yet to be fully implemented with the beta of another that's nearly feature-complete and your conclusion is: "the beta game has more polish" you've added nothing meaningful to the conversation and showing you don't understand game development.
the beta period is literally for applying and finalizing the polish you're pointing out is absent

Re: First impression
Currently I believe they're hurdling through Alpha phases based on a pre-determined time line but aren't actually hitting thr milestones required that they set for themselves to advance phases. The phases aren't that meaningful if the objectives aren't achieved the phases advance as if they were. I wouldn't expect a meaningfully different testing experience for maybe a year or longer.
Re: Steven, Please Rethink “Not for Everyone”
Yeah, I mean... I prefer PvE, but I like PvP sometimes... especially for about an hour while defending towns.
So Sieges are a great feature for me.
Similar here. I imagine the ideal Experience as something which is probably also along the Lines of what Sir Steven himself plans.
Like a PvP Server in WoW. There is a constant Danger of being attacked - but you can work mostly on PvE-Goals and CHOOSE whenever you want to engage in PvP.
City Sieges are just the nice Cream ontop. Something to make the Game more spicey. WoW didn't have that, but WoW would have been better if it would have had that.
The "Warfronts" from Battle for Azerit were this for quite a bit.

Re: Steven, Please Rethink “Not for Everyone”
I consider my playstyle to be Casual Challenge/Hardcore Time.
But, it's typical for gamers who used to be Hardcore Challenge/Hardcore Time in the university years and shortly thereafter to eventually drift over to Casual Time - because of jobs, marriage and kids.
And then, that may mean they no longer have enough gaming time to complete Hardcore Challenge tasks.
Steven is very close to only having Casual Time to play - if he's not there already.
And, I'm pretty sure Margaret has moved over to Casual Time now that she's married and has a baby.
It will be interesting to see if, by the time Ashes releases, Steven and Margaret are still in the niche for the game design Steven initially envisioned.

It's not that cute and dry,
To most PvE players that just want to log in to a game and hang out with their friends, it in fact IS that cut and dry.
If one game has a chance where this could happen, and another game has no chance, there is no question at all as to which game players like the above will play.
yeah... "This game isn't for everyone...and that's OK"
Re: Cosmetic sell in Alpha-2
JeanPhilippeGunghar wrote: »Quick question: Would you support adding a cosmetic shop starting in Alpha-2 Phase 3?
Personally, I wouldn’t mind—as long as one condition is met: no pre-order FOMO.
Meaning, if a cosmetic is added, Intrepid releases something like a mount, armor set, or other cosmetic each month, and then it disappears the following month.
Or would you prefer they wait until the beta phases or even launch to introduce it?
Nah, I'd rather they just focused their resources on getting the game built and working.
Re: Amazing world, painfully dull grind
It has a soft limit through the citizenship costs. Or at least that was the plan previously.Wait, why exactly do you believe this is true? I don't think we have a 'citizen limit' (if so plz link me or quote wiki).
So, while smaller nodes will probably be filled with megaguilds (if those decide to overtake a smaller node) - I'm not sure if metros (or whatever they are called now) will be overtakeable by a single entity. I guess some truly huge meta-guild with hundreds upon hundreds of members, but at that point I feel like splitting your forces into a wider control structure would be more beneficial.
But who knows.

Re: First impression
You realize this game has been in Alpha coming up to 4 years right? The Alpha excuse looses it's luster if it just stays in Alpha for years to come. I really hope Alpha 3 is addressing things like UI, and Questing(Alternative way to level solo}. They are addressing the crafting, which is nice.
The original poster is not wrong. The game's strongest point is that it is pretty.
