What it doesn’t have to reloaded? It has an infinite magic power source just like the wand. It would shoot energy based projectiles! And would fit right in to arcane engineering.
What you seem to want here is a differently shaped wand.
As to your idea for a "call home" mechanic, that goes against what Ashes is.
Steven wants you to look at going from one part of the world to another as a form of gameplay. The fact that even a game as low quality (in gameplay terms) as WoW understands that traveling isn't gameplay doesn't come in to play here.

The problem with the pistols i see is that if you mask Wand with a skin of pistol - it will be hard to distinguish what weapon the enemy uses at first sight. Which is not something which should happen.
And no you cant assume that it will be general knowledge that pistols are wands, because if this is the way the game takes - then there will be many different weapon skins that change the weapon completely. So now you have to memorize 30 skins, to which actual weapon they represent.

So introduction of ANY type of easy, convenient travelling would be a deathblow to this game and therefore has to be avoided. And if any of those will be introduced this will mark the beginning of the end. (And yes, it is that dramatic)

As to WHY this is not a thing, I can only guess and my guess is that this is bound to the lore in some way that has yet to be revealed.
Presumably, having only just come through a portal and having our very first access to The Essence, doesn't count as having Mastery Over Transformation Magic and Attuning Our Souls To Transformation Magic.

wouldnt surprise me tbh if druid/nature themed magic class came some time down the future with an expansion but definelty no shot before game comes out

The closest we will get in the current design will be the Monster Coin events, which are open world events where players can use monster coins to take control of a Mob thats part of the event and push the objective of one side through that. But as the concept implies: This is class independent and event bound.
As to WHY this is not a thing, I can only guess and my guess is that this is bound to the lore in some way that has yet to be revealed. Lastly: there are still a few Archetype combinations that strike me as nature themed, which as off now might be your best chance of going there.

Funfact : i KNOW from the Minotauer-Stormcaller Presentation, that Ashes of Creation will be able to process Weather Effects and even "Icy Storms" most likely, that can look like this.
