Re: Character Models
I guess we can all agree that for Example with the Humans,
from what i have seen on the Alpha Two Test Servers from Phase 1 onward last Year -> Men and Women look pretty similar in Stature, Build, "Looks", etc.
A bit more Difference is desired.
Boys get the broader Shoulders and Muscles - Girls should get a few more Curves.
Now everyone thinking themselves smart might want to argue and say :
" NO !!! Ashes is not an Asia-MMO for Gooners and so on !!! " - and these People are way off the mark.
I sometimes hate to have to Mention Worst of Warcraft out of all MMO's,
but aside from it's Cartoony Style of how the World and the Charaters look,
You can CLEARLY distinguish between Men and Women in the Game. For some Races the Difference are even more obvious than for others - but WoW is not a "Gooner(lol) MMO".
Anyone remember the Ashes of Creation Clips from around 2018 or so, with the "Sorceress"(?) who ran around in that Orange/Red Outfit, which was admittedly a bit trimmed towards direction sexy ? lol
Back then, i think the Differences were clearly visible. Even if the Outfits played a role as well. It doesn't even have to be so over-the-top clearly and easily noticeable - but noticeable enough. Nothing would harm the Popularity for Characters more if Men and Women would look almost the same.

Re: Mepps Joins Intrepid Studios’ Community Management Team!
Hi Mepps! Welcome aboard!
What kinda genre of books do you like to read? And what are your favorites?
Welcome Meeps!
Ever read any of Conn Iggulden's books (his Khan or Caesar series) - decent writer if you like strategy and historical fiction. Or Guy Gavriel Kay's The Lions of Al-Rassan?
Anyways welcome from Mostly Harmless Guild!
I haven't read Iggulden but will take a look.
Guy Kay is in my top 3 authors, actually, with A Song for Arbonne just ahead of Lions for me. Depending on the day, Arbonne is my favorite book of all time. I also love Jacqueline Carey and started life as a massive Wheel of Time/Robert Jordan devotee.
Basically fantasy/historical fantasy is what I gravitate towards most of the time.

Re: How Solo Players (Basically) Saved MMOs From Going Extinct
Wow that video was disingenuous...
I'm not gonna bother 'arguing against it' because I'm sure Intrepid is gonna be fine.
It's definitely 'true' in specific ways, but wow does it hinge on creating the idea of binary content relationships...

How Solo Players (Basically) Saved MMOs From Going Extinct
So I just watched this video called “How Solo Players Saved MMORPGs” and it honestly hit. Hard. Let's be honest here: MMOs have changed. Most of us aren’t teenagers anymore with endless time to commit to 5-hour raids, Discord politics, and guild drama. Life got busier. People wanted more flexibility. And the only ones really showing up consistently? The solo players.
MMOs Could’ve Died, But They Didn’t
If you look back, the genre almost flatlined. Games were shutting down. Studios were giving up. But the thing that kept so many of these worlds alive? The casuals. The solo crafters. The people who log in after work to fish, quest, and vibe alone. Not everyone wants to treat a game like a job. Those players kept the servers warm.
Solo Players Aren’t Asking to Play Alone Forever
No one’s saying MMOs should become single-player games. But a lot of us start solo. And when a game makes space for that kind of play, when it lets you get hooked on your own terms, you end up sticking around. You find your group eventually. You might even join a guild. But if the early experience is “join a zerg or fall behind,” that’s a hard pass for a lot of people.
Ashes Looks Incredible… But Also Intense
The systems look ambitious. The node stuff? Wild. But it feels like a game where solo players might just get left behind. It’s very guild-driven. Very grind-heavy. And I get it, that’s the vision. But man, if there’s no real way to feel useful or progress meaningfully on your own… I worry it’s gonna push away a lot of potential long-term players. Not everyone wants to be in a 300-person Discord just to enjoy a fantasy world.
My Hope?
That Ashes doesn’t forget the players who show up quietly and consistently. The ones who aren’t loud on forums or top of the DPS meter, but who log in, explore, gather, craft, and help keep the economy alive. The ones who kept the genre breathing. If this game can strike even a little balance, where solo players can still make progress, still feel relevant, and maybe even find their people over time, I think it’ll last a whole lot longer.
And yeah…
Someone might say, “Well then maybe this game isn’t for you.” And maybe they’re right. But it’s also still early days. Ashes could be something truly special. And I think it’d be a huge missed opportunity not to widen the door just a little, to welcome more kinds of players in.

Sensitive? It's not me complaining that I don't get more for $100, when in fact we get years long access to a game in active development. Read the small print before you buy.Elohim_Venture wrote: »SmileGurney wrote: »Ok, bye.Elohim_Venture wrote: »daveywavey wrote: »Lol yeah, buying in now isn't "from the start". There are backers here who have been here for years already.
I understand that, but even so, joining Alpha 2 means being there from the very beginning. In any case, I'm not trying to compete over who got in first. I'm simply pointing out that paying $100 to support the game at such an early stage, like Alpha 2, and only receiving one free month at launch feels like a small return.
How sensitive some people in this community are, haha, I thought it was an adult community capable of dialogue.
Why this argument keeps coming up? You are not forced to put your money on a line and there is plenty of finished games out there.
Re: How Solo Players (Basically) Saved MMOs From Going Extinct
The ability to jump in and out of an MMO on your own schedule while still being able to do something satisfying and progressive is a big draw for "solo" players (also known as time limited players) and is very important. Hopefully, AoC will allow such interaction.

Re: Mepps Joins Intrepid Studios’ Community Management Team!
A wild Mepps appears! Honestly bigger news than the Anvils coming.
A former DCUO player here, so I know how valuable Mepps will be for the Intrepid team and AoC as a game.
Big W Steven. Mepps, welcome aboard!

Re: 📝 Dev Discussion - Archetype Vibe Check
Tanks feels useless from my point of view.
Mitigation has huge diminishing, instead of phys/mag attack.
So classes who has the highest skills damage scaling from phys/mag attack currently are strongest and more usefull in all situations pve and pvp (mage, bard).
Tank who uses auto attack in 90% of time feels very bad.
Currently TTK is pretty similar to the time when it was before rework, too small, where mages, bards, heals are the strongest.
About leveling.
My party were able to easy level without tank, just 2 bards and mage.
When i came as a tank, we were able to pull one plus mob , so leveling won't be too complicated in the party composition without tanks.
As tank in mitigation is pretty similar to other classes, it doesn't have many advantage in the defence.
Only 2 additional skill in defence grit and iron aura which also comes through diminishing
Shields are still very useless while using staming, as you can basically evade mobs and restore staming with passives. So better to make more damage while holding focus instead of shield.
Also played bard, and it's very easy and fun.

Re: Character Models
They Dunzenkell Dwarves look closer to EQ and EQ2 Dwarves - which makes a ton of sense considering Intrepid has so many employees from SOE/Daybreak. Especially in the Kickstarter days.Terranigma1 wrote: »This is absurd. The issue with the in-game models is not that they don't look like Korean models but that they simply look deformed and any lack polish. A dwarf doesn't need to look handsome, but he should look like a dwarf and not like a shrinked human, as they currently do.
