•
Personally for a KS I’d rather they offered more physical items and maybe a handful of in game items.
Id assume the main reason this isnt the case in most games early access crowd funds is because adding physical items basically sucks up money that can otherwise be spent on development. where as making 5-10 mounts / costumes etc is much more cost effective as a reward.
• ESO put a playable race behind a paywall. for a game launched as a subscription model. spent 1/4 mil on voice acting personalities.
It's launch was a janky, buggy disgrace.
I pre ordered ESO, played till i hit veteran rank or whatever it was called and finished the personal forced narrative "Single Player" then purged that game from my memory.

GW2, F2P. pay for character slots/pay for bank slots/pay for bag slots/unlimited gathering tools.... skins... skins... skins....skins...
Lack of content, lack of balance, Unfulfilled expansion promises....owell, more skins more cosmetics.

I too am a bit disgruntled that subscription based game is also going down a cash shop path. But i don't think it possible to go without this day and age
Secondly there is no information on whether or not the cash shop will also accept in game currency.

In saying that I still kick started AoC I feel confident the team at Intrepid won't pull a an ESO and make a douche move.
• I'm fairly certain it's mostly if not all cosmetic, right?

Regardless, it'd be a shame to see so much locked behind a kickstarter wall.
• Maybe you can help me understand this point of view. I'm not seeing where, in a fully mature game, fewer than 20 items (1 of which is an intangible item in the game, Lifetime sub) is "so much" being "locked behind a kickstarter wall"?

I could understand if they'd listed 75+ items going "ok wait, that sounds like a majority of the pets/mounts/etc in the game"... but fewer than 20 in total, I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around the scarcity mindset involved.
• Generally when there are Kickstarter exclusive items, there are ALSO other items in the game that are similar. Often coloured differently or with some tweak so that people can get the same item, but the Kickstarter one will always be "a little" exclusive. Again, like a different colour or something. I have no problem with it, myself. Games need to get funded. This is how games get funded. If people don't want to support the game at this stage, that's totally your call, folks. But personally, I don't see stuff like this as a reason not to.
• There has to be some exclusivity for a game that is in pre-alpha to attract backers.

All the pledges offered practically cover the subscription amounts associated.
Moaning about additional access to exclusive cosmetic items is a bit a whinge really.

was expecting trolls to jump on the head starts as P2W.
Or that the referral system is just a pyramid scheme.

If AoC is genuine and has the integrity it expresses than i think we can all be assured of an amazing experience.

However, we're talking about a game that's still in development which probably won't go live for at least 2 years.

And this isn't Star Citizen....
•
Problem is if you offer them after the kick starter even for a limited time it then takes away from the exclusivity of it for the higher tiers.
And i’m saying that as someone who only pledged the 125 i don’t think i should get the 400 pledge rewards at any point in time.
That’s the reward of backing them and putting your trust in the developers.
There’s always an inherent risk of not getting what you payed for with the game itself obviously but that’s the gamble of early access.

@sinoskai

I couldn't agree more with you on this, a great example is ESO i was all for this game and got into beta and bought what was suppose to be exclusive package that allowed anyone that pre orded the ability to make any race in any faction and no one else was suppose to get this.

Day 1 of launch. Its for sale in the Cash Shop. This left a bad taste in my mouth and really stirred me away from the game for awhile.

I myself want to get the founders pack just to get the title and alpha access but need to come up with the money. However if later they sell these rare exclusives it will stir people away and show they are willing to sale out but i don't think they will do this.
