Class Combinations and Races

  • Will be interesting to see how the Clerics work out actually. Because if Cleric + Cleric is the only pure healer than you can imagine people only wanting that kind of healer for group dungeons and such? Will any other combination be able to keep the group up? Who knows?

I like engineer classes, I'm just not sure they work in this style or era. I guess you could engineer a crossbow or something? and maybe have some kind of traps and bombs? But you couldn't have turrets, gun or anything automatic .. that would take away from the medieval theme.

You bring up good points. The devs have stated that ALL classes will be viable in their respective field, regardless of class combination. Now, how they plan to do so, given all the class variations potentially available, remains to be seen, as you said.

It's not going to be an easy task, and I'm curious as to how some of the class combinations will work, myself. Such as, a fighter primary class, paired with a mage secondary class would result in a "Spell Blade" type of class. "Eldritch energies are focused into the fighters attacks!", or some such. But, what would a mage primary, fighter secondary, result in?

    Lots of questions.
  • Does anyone think maybe a cleric/summoner will make a shaman?
  • Forgot to add this in but maybe summoner/cleric will make a summoner that can summon either light spirits or Angels to fight.
Also if there is a Renown/Infamy system i think it would be cool if depending on your reputation that Angelic Summoner would become an Infernal Summoner
  • All the race info is located on their kickstarter page

sorry if im behind just learned about this
  • Yeah it would be very interesting to see how these combinations work, especially when choosing a class for a specific role. It diffidently sounds like there's going to be some interesting combinations but as I said with Cleric, for example, if any class takes away from its ability to be a good group healer .. then its not going to be as effective at its primary role.

Take Mage.. if you're choosing that for its Range DPS ability .. then pairing it with something like fighter or tank (or pretty much anything other than pure Mage) almost certainly won't improve its effectiveness for Ranged DPS. Sure it'll give it other abilities, maybe improve it survivability. But if you're doing for range DPS then you probably don't care much for that.

Same could be said for Fighter .. if you take Fighter for its Melee DPS, then picking tank, mage, cleric etc. surely wont improve its Melee DPS?

Unless .. picking the same secondary has little to no effect on augmenting the primary skills? (I'm basing all this on the assumption that choosing the same secondary will simply improve the power or duration etc of their primary.. we don't know). In which case, kind of forcing us to choose a secondary?

With 64 combination there will obviously be classes that stand out at certain roles over others.. and some that will be almost useless. In fact that would be one of my big worries, keeping 64 class combinations "balanced" would be a near impossible task. I'd worry that they'd try too hard to make it happen and good classes constantly get nerfed because they want people to play something different.
  • You guys are so mage focused.

    Tank Summoner.
    Tank Bard.

The possibilities with these are great but as you've all said it'll all come down to the system and how it works. Really though a tank summoner would be great fun. Summoning magic allies, beasts, whatever their system is and then letting them do damage while you stand there gloriously taking damage like it's nothing. mmmmm ye boi.
  • No I think it's just me who loves mages haha. I have a vision of a perfect mage and I've yet to find a game that lets me play as one haha xD

As we've said though secondary class wont give you extra skills, it'll "augment" the ones you have from you'r primary class. So having a Tank/Summoner won't necessarily mean you'll be able to summon any additional minions as that would be a different skill .. Maybe you'll be able to summon stronger shields? We don't know yet.
  • Summoner will probably be able to tame the more rare monsters,
    The more Epic ones
  • On the Kickstarter they talk abpout Rogue/Summoner summoning "helping hands"
