I love a single global server. I don’t know how practical that is for this game, though. People would complain of high ping somewhere, and congestion would be an issue. Eve Online’s Tranquility server is an absolute beast and a labor of love for CCP. I don’t see how we could do that.
However, the issue I see arising with many servers is the eventuality of a server going ‘dead’ and then the players complaining of low pop which will lead to an eventual server merge. That has me slightly worried, but not extremely worried.

A good question for the next Q&A might be: Do you have any plans for the possibility that a server might just become unpopular and be virtually empty? It seems like it could be a real headache for you and pretty demoralizing for the "builder players" on that server. Sandboxes can't be merged well by thier nature.
Agreed.

Here’s the thing.

Low Pop servers are good for more solo focused players BUT you might only get 1 level 6 node. Thats why I said if you can pack 20K people or more on a server, you will need a lot fewer servers to start. This will reduce the chance a server pop will be low. For example if have 10K connections per server you might need 12 or more servers for 500K+ subs but you can have 6 servers with 20K connections. Maybe then you would only have 1 server end up with low population.
I have a feeling this game if released in a good state will not take the normal MMORPG path.

That makes better sense to me. Thanks for clarifying.
