Will Ashes of Creation be coming to PAX Australia?
Hey guys! I dont know if this has been asked elsewhere, and if it has I apologise.
I'm wondering if there has been any discussion at all about having an Ashes of Creation stand at PAX Australia, either in 2017 or 2018.
I know I speak for a lot of the Australian players and my own guild specifically when i say that we would love to see you guys there!

Even airfares to Australia alone are absolutely huge from the US. To get Steven and say, a team of 4-6 down here, plus accomm, plus expenses, would cost AoC a pretty penny.
To put it in perspective, it'd be the difference between hiring another programmer for the year or not. I know shows are fun and you want to say hi to the devs, but come on :)
I'm quite confident AoC wants to show this region love. The bigger question is, will we turn up -- and stick around -- to make it viable? I've played games in the past that have set up an Aussie server, and often had to close it down after a year or so as the majority of the audience moves on to, "the next big thing". It's risky giving us love. We're great gamers, but very flighty!
on a side note we did create a oceanic community discord so us aussies and the rest of the oceanic community can come chill and get to know each other
Let's imagine it costs the team $30,000 to get flights, accommodation, and all necessary expenses for a team of five to make it to PAX Australia.
I'm not sure on the exact attendee numbers, but I was there a couple of years ago and it's HUGE. Thousands of fans and two entire days to explore anything and everything that looks remotely interesting. For me, $30,000 out of the development budget (which doesn't seem to be a scratch, considering the amount of money this Kickstarter has contributed), doesn't deter me from hoping for a PAX appearance. Not only would this be an awesome opportunity for fans, but it would be extremely useful in helping to expand the game's scene in Australia. As someone who's been involved with MMO's for a long time and is a dedicated member of the Oceanic SMITE eSports community, I cannot stress how important it is for our region to promote growth! If there isn't a large enough number of extremely committed members in OCE, I might end up playing on NA servers. It really would be unfortunate, but it's the sad truth - we, unlike NA and EU, need to try our absolute hardest to promote the scene and keep as many players active as possible.
On another note, if worse comes to worse, we should actively realise that OCE servers won't be populated enough and decide on a singular NA server and play together there.
Let me know what you guys think!
Set up a virtual telepresence at pax, no airfare needed. Now I can imagine quite a bit that can go wrong, but it should be way cheaper to do. Some large screen TV's and the internet. Two way video so they can see anyone at there virtual booth and we can see them.
Hmm?
Well, for starters, it would be at least double the figure you're working with :)
30K might get 5 folks out here... just... it would actually cost a little more than that to my mind... but let's not split hairs because that's just getting bodies on the ground. For a decent sized booth, the gear, merch, etc, you might as well go and double that.
I read an article once about a tiny indie game... maybe it was an app... and they cut every corner they could, and their PAX bill was well over 10K. And they were tiny, and not even trying to have a big presence. So CoE's would certainly be up around 30K.
This is what I mean about adding it all up and it's someone's wage for a year, versus going to PAX where -- sure -- you get in front of people and it can be very ego-boosting and stuff like that. But it's a lot of people who will largely already know about the game.
That's one of the interesting things about events like PAX; you're largely preaching to the converted. Any self-respecting nerd/geek should be able to walk the floor and know what most of the stuff is already. Who goes to PAX and see heaps of brand-new stuff?
Between the fact the amount could have someone working on the game for 12 months, versus putting the game in front of some people who already know what it is, I think the value remains highly questionable. But that's me. Mileage's out there will vary.

Tbh i think it's just a pipe dream, unless of course we get a response (nudge nudge, wink wink :)).

@Shunex - nice work on getting an oceanic discord running. Will have to pop in and say g'day sometime.

But seeing how much it's grown by word of mouth, perhaps that's what makes it seem legit?
As for PAX might be worth a small presence, but since the ABCtv axed GoodGame The Mainstream Marketing methods might not matter. I think most of the MMO player community will probably end up already knowing about it.
I would like to see a healthy AUNZ server...The fact that Oceanic servers are pretty much guaranteed was what made me back the game.
An interesting question comes to mind... how many people relied on Good Game solely for their gaming info, anyway? I can put hand on heart and say I never watched an episode after they dropped Junglist (the short version of my story being that I watched the show from the start when it was two unpolished presenters who were hardcore gamers, so by the time they were both dropped and it was two far more polished presenters with lesser gaming cred, I was very disappointed), yet I never lacked gaming information or being right on top of any genre within the industry I wanted to be on top of. I know that when Junglist was dropped, it's when many gamers only became aware of the show (!) but, even for them, I'd like to think the show wasn't their only source for news and reviews? Was its axing that much of a disaster?
I Haven't bought a PC mag for over a decade.
PAX is likely more for consoles and smartphone apps I am willing to assume.
My main point i was trying to emphasis is that the the veteran MMO player uses the PC and the internet.
And as we can already acknowledge that AOC has found a perch in the MMO community.
I don't think PAX is really necessary to find its fan base in AUNZ
Safe to assume in the 2+ years yet to develop that the MMO community will be drawn to AOC like ants to a picnic.
Also with the servers being capped at 10k players, I don't think we'll have a population issue any time in the first couple of years after launch. And worst case, Intrepid have that that while they ope to never have to do it, they will have measures in place for server mergers.
Better off developing a solid product first before pedaling it. Generating to much hype early can have negative effects.
Hype in general only leads to disappointment most of the time.
maybe PAX east 2019.
The fact that an Oceanic server has been mentioned, pre kick starter is/was already a massive draw card, at least for myself personally.
If there ends up being a merge well...at least we tried.
