No Man's Sky Vibes
Small studio, formally unknown, and here with ideas to save an entire genre. All of those things can be applied to both IS and the developers of NM'SS.

No man's sky didnt have a beta test and the developers there answered the question super vaguely purposely to avoid legal troubles like the biggest bullshit the said about the game having online capabilities which it did just not the ones we were hoping for. Steven and his team is answering everything we ask on streams in detail so i feel no no mans sky theme here.
Steven is basically rich and doesnt need to pull a NMS . Hes funding this whole project by himself with 30+ mill of his own money and i think thats 3nought to believe in this project a bit and if thats not enough for you think logically for a second here.
This game is still pre alpha meaning there will be actual player testing and the test will talk about whether they like the direction this game is going in or not before you buy it. And thats the first thing.
Second, this game is being covered by multiple youtubers and all who do cover the game get alpha and or beta access and they will fill you in on whether youll want to buy the game or not before release
For the third thing if you dont believe in the project yet and wanna see proof wait for it to come out. Let others play it before you do however when steven and his team show that this game is built with their hearts then youll be behind in leveling.
Final point how many developers caming into the developer job line as a long term gamer? If you think about it logically even if steven pulled a no man's sky he would be losing more money in the process but since hes basically rich and isnt asking for company backing and is also publishing the game himself(technically intrepid studios is aka his studio) instead of letting another company do it then can you at least give the man a chance?
Edit:
The creator(s) of NMS didn't reveal plans regarding to design. Intrepid has a weekly Q&A, Discord forums etc. They answer as many questions as they can handle. Thats the complete opposite of what Hello Games did.
The campaign for both games are worlds apart, you just sound salty.
Now what comes to IS, in this case the devs seem to actually care for their community. With multiple alphas and betas the game can be polished to the very edge. The studio surely is quite ambitious and if they fail to deliver as good mmorpg as they have promised, it'll be probably because of the lack of qualified manpower or too tight schedule.
On the flip side, Steven seems very keen to keep the wild speculation and rumours in check through the regular QandA livestreams so that the community knows exactly what they are planning for the game.
We've already seen more gameplay of AoC than we did for NMS. The communication has been open and transparent. It's literally the exact opposite of the game you mentioned, which was nearly a complete mystery until release.
Good lord, people like the OP put 2 + 2 together and make 526.

But i "can" remember all that with Everquest "Next". I'm not saying I feel this way yet about Intrepid but my eyes are peeled. And weekly pod casts with easy questions and answers and big smiles and discussions of dreams and hopes is only gonna keep people happy for so long.
I think this is the perfect theme song for those who backed Star Citizen and NMS

What 've they done to deserve your faith?

Because it didnt. Nobody played NMS until it was released. The devs new the game wasnt going to live up, so they kept a tight lid and released almost nothing until the day it came out. The difference between NMS development and AoC is night and day.
So far, they've not broken their promise of being as transparent as possible.
That in itself is a great asset for both them and the community.
They are also being realistic in terms of what is possible for them, especially in terms of duration.
From what I can tell, they do have some experienced people on board to make sure things go smoothly.
I can understand where the doubts come from, though.
The message in this case would be to be supportive of the team, but not hype the game up to an extent that it turns out to be an obvious disappointment.
That doesn't mean you can't get people interested, it's just that there's a blurry line between hyping the game up to be something it's not and being excited over what the game realistically has to offer.
So to compare this game with no man's sky is only going to fail, since Intrepid studios decided to be so transparent, I already feel as thought I know what I'm going to get when this game comes out. And it looks good ....!
If you get bad vibes, just don't back and wait until the game is out?
I really don't see the problem.
The NMS launch was more like a beta/early access than a full release. People were really just upset about the labels.
But, those labels have a significant effect on perception.
Steven hypes with an enthusiasm that is very reminiscent of Sean Murray... worse, though, the hype is also very reminiscent of Kingdoms of Amalur, EQNext and Revival.
I'm hopeful that Intrepid will fulfill the design potential of Ashes... but, I'm not on the hype train. I'm expecting vaporware.
We will see.
