  • I would like to see something similar to what entertainers were in SWG. Not the only thing they do, but a set of long lasting persistent buffs that they could give to people who listen/watch them in an Inn while grouped. It would be another way for bards to make money by offering buffs for sale. Though in SWG it did become one of those "must haves" before setting out on adventures. I am not saying the class should be parked in Inns all the time, still have them with their combat abilities, just an extra thing to promote social interaction.

  • Don't think I've ever seen so many people hyped over a utility class.

    @UnknownSystemError While I agree with you that the SWG method of playing music endlessly to buff people while gaining exp is awesome (and I believe they had tips? Can't remember), they would end up having to include some way for other players to afk and gain exp. If they don't, it would likely have the criers out in a heartbeat.
  • Didn't think of it as an experience gaining thing, more of a way to make them useful out of combat and a way to promote socializing. Make it so it doesn't work afk and problem solved. If they do decide to give experience for it, make it minimal. The incentive would be player tips. Make the buffs fun, but not balance breaking. But you are probably right, more work to implement than it is worth to not have something similar for each class to stop the "He got his, where is mine?" crowd.
  • @UnknownSystemError I'd prefer they don't try to appease that crowd though. Don't allow buff entertainment to allow exp gain but keep the afk buffing. Would be great for taverns/pubs.
  • I would love do be a Bard/something with a big bells in my back and smash it on the ground to heal or buff my party with some cool sound waves.  B)B)B)
  • Leaning strongly towards bard, unless something blindsides me between now and launch  :)

  • What flavor of bard does everyone plan on being?
  • I might play a fighter/bard like a warrior skald. Also I had to say hi to a fellow taru =D.
  • I'm planing on starting as a Bard/Rouge  :)
  • Anyone seen the animation movie "Rock Dog"? It left me with a new appreciation for musical instruments as weapons, I hope bards work similar to this. The strum of a guitar sending powerful shockwaves and leaving enemies mesmerised.
  • I like bards and will probably be one but I feel like this is the best example of our playthrough.

    For me bards should be all about moral..and moral controls efficiency.
    As every skill could have its own efficiency, there is really no limit to the songs and instruments that could be deployed to control all the different skills.

    That woudl require bard builds to adopt instruments and scores as a counter to specific play styles. If playstyles are limitless so would the potential variety.

    You could take it further with a blind song system. You can take the long road through trial and error of experiment or you could find songs in the wild or even buy sell songs among players.

    It could be as deep and rich as any crafting system.

    Musicians are masters of harmony and group play is all about unique skills employed in a harmonic way. Each player an instrument, their actions the music.
  • I feel that bards should also have the ability to take a scribe based system. where we can write in books that can be traded and sold. We can make legends of players or groups for members past, current and future to read of. Let the Bards write the lore.
  • Playing as a bard is kind of temptating.. i wonder if you can play it also as full debuffer/distractor and not just support. I know devs talked about these nightmare songs, but was that just one ability or could you have whole arsenal of debuff skills?
  • I would like to try Summoner / Bard, but we need to learn before that of all the skills of all classes.
  • I'm going bard main but I'm going to wait before picking a subclass but I 2ant to use a fiddle or bagpipes for my bard.
  • I wonder how the bard/rogue will turn out lol.
    * sneaks behind enemy *
    * plays softly in enemy's ear *

    I think I'll go with that class combo, if I'm not #wololo 'd to another combo. I'll definitely stay with the bard class though.

    I don't plan on becoming a bard, but I do have short stories that have a bard in them(Courtesy of a guild mate who wanted his Ashes character featured in them). What I would really like to see is offensive and defensive spells cast through their instruments. If anyone has seen Kung Fu Hustle, there are a pair of brothers that use a stringed Chinese instrument and it shoots out daggers and short swords every time they run their fingers across the cords. Having something like a Bard "Magic Missile" would be a great deal of fun to watch in the game.

    Another thing I would like to see, for a bard, is the ability to play their own songs while in a channeled spell. They could either play it as the channel is happening or have some kind of record feature that will play that song during the spell.
  • As it's my favorite class in any game, I am so excited for Bard! I think having flexibility would really make the class shine. I personally have zero desire to play with animals as a Bard, but I'd love for the class to be able to accommodate that somehow (since some folks are clearly into that). On that same note, I'd like to be able to scribe/compose as was also suggested. Having the ability to AFK perform sounds amazing! Just being able to play Bard as an immersive experience in an MMO would be welcome. To that end, I think having the ability to play your bard in a way that suits you is what will bring the class home for me. I really hope the team considers some of the ideas expressed in this forum!

    Is anybody else a little scared after having read the Bard Class description that says: "Bard knows secret and powerful words, able to speak into being terrible nightmares, or to convince foes to become friends"?

    Is it just me or does that actually sound like a fear skill and a skill to convert enemies #wololo

    Sounds like you better don't mess with bards xD
    That's one of the reasons that I'm tempted to try Bard/Sumoner...or Summoner/Bard.
    Cool I had not even thought of that combo.
  • I want the bard played the harmonica.
