I'd love for there to be a real extensive ship battle system but down the road.

They already have their hands full with a very complex game.

Would be nice to have ships in the initial game with some combat capabilities but would rather them focus on the core game first for initial release with ships in it.

If they try too do too much all at once for first release it could thin the game out.

Once the game is out and polished. It would be nice to see the game develop to more complex sea battles to do it justice.

We want to avoid Star Citizen scenario where people want too much all at once where it delays game being released or having a bunch od things rushed rather than some things well polished.

Do I want sea battles and amazing combat system for ships sure I do but lets get the core game out and start with some basic ships and functions first.

We can add complex stuff later where it can be a focus on development with the attention it deserves and to be done well, as future development after initial release.

Well they did claim that they are going to put this feature in, so they need to put in a good ship battle system (that isn't bare bones). Why bother offering the feature if they are going to put in a half assed system in place instead? I like to hold developers accountable as I have seen it too much that people give studios a free pass.  If I had a choice I would say a pretty robust naval pvp core system with a dozen of so ship types and equipment, then later like a expansion or two later go crazy with it.

As for using Star Citizen as an example is terrible, considering that the game was Kickstarted in October 2012 and almost 5 years later with over close to $200 million in the bank and no finished game? I already written it off as vaporware. This studio so far (surprisingly) has more progress since their Kickstarter than Cloud Imperium Games in 3 years.

Everyone in our community continues to humble the team here at Intrepid Studios with the support that Ashes has been shown!!

We have unlocked the Enhanced Naval Content Stretch Goal!!!

Everyone here is SO EXCITED about the additional ships and water content that we will be creating.  Sea based trade routes, combat ships, treasure hunting, underwater dungeons and mounts! A whole new sea of content :)

With that latest unlock, we have added a couple more goals to reach!! And we know we can count on everyone to help spread the word about Ashes, so we can get this content unlocked!

I'm not saying they shouldn't put in ship combat system into the game at launch some people are wanting very complex ship battle systems. All I am stating is that this game is extremely complex as it is with it's core system. For a small studio to put out the a game of this magnitude as it is is very ambitious.

If they take too long trying to do too many things at once for launch it will further delay the game which people will start calling vapor ware.

The types of things some people are asking for is indicative of a stand alone ship combat game which is unrealistic to ask of a game where that is an add on feature.

They made a commitment  and I am sure they will follow through with what they have promised. You can see what I posted straight for the Kick Starter stretch goal promise.

What people are asking for goes beyond that.

Don't get me wrong I would love to see most of what people are asking for in the game but the extreme of what they are asking for is a lot to ask of the stretch goal promised.

Maybe my wording was a bit off on my original post compared to what I was actually trying to get across.  Yes they should have some ship combat system in there at launch. would be mute to have Combat ships without some Ship Combat system in place.

However, expecting this game to have the same level of ship combat as a stand alone ship combat game is unrealistic. It would be amazing to see an MMO with a really advanced ship combat system and I think it would be something great for them to continue to work on as the game progresses.

  • Well it's all ideas in the end, IS probably has a specific image in mind of how things will work but you never know what can inspire them for change :D

Well combat system does not have to be complex to be fun.  Complex does not necessarily mean good.  There are MMORPGs out there that provide naval combat that is not overly complex but still immersive and fun. I would just like to see the different ship models.
  • @DorjeI have to agree with @Consultant that it doesn't have to be complex to be fun. I am only expecting that they don't put it in the game like as they have said with other aspects of the mmorpg systems, an "after thought".

As for delaying the game well it would actually beneficial for them anyway since they can continue to work on it, I am unsure why people are treating this title like Star Citizen, which is pretty much vaporware. I have yet to see any game go for 5 years and continually going to their brain dead fan base for more funding.

It is not a major comparison just a minor one and one that many criticize about Star Citizen there are some people that felt they should have stuck with a less ambitious aspect of the game to get that out first to give people something to play while they add on some of the more comprehensive and extensive addons. As I say and using this to a very tiny aspect ratio.

It would be great for them to do what they promised with the original stretch goal which I am sure they will do in a way that will satisfy most.

But there are some people that want some very complex things added that would be good to further develop to that extreme after the game is already out.

So in all actually me and Consultant bring up the same or similar point so not sure where you are differentiating.

Different and added wording same end result :)

Take another read of what I wrote towards the ending

  • Well naval combat is a brilliant idea, shame most other games trying it don't get it right, I hope AoC doe's.
  • If it can get anywhere near Archage alpha Sea Combat, I'll be satisfied.

Is what I was going off of compared to Consultant's previous posts which I found would be in something like +51 expansions later. You are saying a standalone shop combat system that is almost a different game, I am saying that it better be "significant" in the features provided and doesn't need to be overly complicated as Consultant's previous posts. Others have implemented it and already set a standard so Ashes of Creation needs to exceed it at this point.

As for Star Citizen it is vaporware and that is what I am going to leave it as is.

Not what I said at all what I am implying is that we should start with a system as was obligated by the pledge go into place as promised. The complex more detailed versions people are asking for could be added down the road after the game launches should enough interest rise for that level of game play.

Game is very complex as it is and delaying a game too long to keep adding more and more complex systems to a game that is still in beginning stages of development which in comparison to how long it usually takes to make a game of this magnitude it is quite young in it's development.

Also due to a lot of mis trust from the public because of a lot of vapor ware in the past which has no direct bearing on IS it is still a big concern indirectly.

So it's best to keep on tract with the core game and the stretch mark goals and get those out first successfully with initial launch before trying to keep compiling too many things at once for initial release.

And as I said before we actually have similar interest just worded differently so not sure why you keep bringing it up :)

If you want to keep progressing this that is your option this will be my last response to you this is getting dragged on longer than it should have in the first place and we are getting no where.

If you wish to disagree it is your right to do so and I encourage you to express your thoughts just don't twist what I say in the process of doing it.

Maybe focus on what you want rather than trying to express what you think I want.

I prefer discussion over argument.  I will express what I feel not try to interpret what you feel only you can do that for your self. I will also not challenge you, to say that you are wrong cause that would be dictating instead of communication. We are here to discuss and express our Ideas.

Sorry accidentally posted. Not quite sure how to delete post.(deleted original post)
  • Ashes of Creation - LiveStream 7/28/17  at the 47:44 mark pretty much sums up what it will be like and it sounds pretty exciting.  Just hope they do not forget to put all those really cool historical models in game.

I really encourage people to watch some of the the Q&A the more I watch them the better the game looks.  Like Steve noted that the preist armour that he was show casing was modular and that being the case we would be able to make slight changes to the cosmetic look of the armour! (little of topic) But just trying to encourage people to watch some of the Q&A so you get a grasp and how good this game is going to be.

I already did in Archeage it was a 10/10 riding it while galleons fought all over the place
  • Ships cottents are the best thing that i hear about AofC recently, i hope they improve this ideia.

I think I'd quit by then. AA got really cutesy with their stuff later on. Early AA ship combat was awesome but I felt like it missed one big thing. Ship customization. This did come later but by then the game was ruined by P2W.
