    They are skins that can sometimes modify the functionality of the mounts right? In the example of the dawnbreaker for example.

    Yeah, it is the last question addressed on the list of FAQ on the kickstarter, as well as posted on the "Intrepid answers" section of the Discord on 5/30. 

    All the KS mounts are actually skins you can apply to mounts you find/earn/buy in game.  The Dawnbreaker still has hope to actually glide, as the kickstarter FAQ says:
    "- The Dawnbreaker is also a mount skin and will be used in a similar fashion as above, but is only applicable to a certain class of mounts. "

     I get it though.  It's for good reasons and it does mean that you can have the KS skin still be a valid choice to ride years down the road.
