Glorious Alpha Two Testers!

Alpha Two Realms are now unlocked for Phase II testing!

You can download the game launcher here and we encourage you to join us on our for the most up to date testing news.

Pre-Launch Character Creation

I would like to see some type of Pre-Launch character creation and I think if we get enough of us together the DEVS might listen to us and give us some type of tool to do this. IMO, it would be an awesome way to keep us involved and a way to express ourselves way before the game comes to a launch.I'm not saying like in a month or anything but maybe like a couple months before launch would be cool.

I'd like to know how the community feels about this and if this is something you would like to see or not see. I'm really interested on how this one will turn out.....

Comments

  • I am under the impression (perhaps falsely) that Steven already mentioned this as a possibility while Intrepid work on the game. I don't think it was more than a comment but it sounds like that they're on your wave length.

There would be no harm in it at all, and I suspect that many, myself included, would spend hours on the thing - especially choosing THE beard.

  • Maybe add something that would make it able to save your character for when the game launches. Just to give us some time to create a character.

Because they did say they wanted to try something like BDO did with their character creator. If that's true. I need at least 2 weeks to create my character to perfection.
  • Steven has mentioned a few times that it is something they would like to have as well right?

Now I am convinced I've read/seen it somewhere because that's what I believe also. Can't find a link though....
  • EverQuest II had just such a thing.  People who preordered the game actually got a CD in the mail prior to release, that was just a character creation tool.  You could create your character ahead of time, save it to a file, and import it right away when the game launched.

I really liked that feature, as it gave us folks who were anxiously awaiting the "big day" something to play with in the meantime.
  • @Kratz dude no joke I can see myself spending a hour on the left eye brow! LOL :p

Well you gotta get those right because it could literally mean the difference between someone getting corrupted or not.
  • Yes I think I remeber this being asked in a Q&A in stream. Steven said he would like to offer this pre launch so people could really hone their toon apearence in advance of the servers going live.  I would love this feature too.
  • I would enjoy this. I want my avatar to be old and beat up looking. A bit like me but way, way better at swinging a weapon and older then I am by a couple/three decades.
  • Yes... I'd love to spend hours (provided the character tool was robust enough) creating my character.

It's always too much of a rush during game launches and you wanna spend time creating a character but you also want to enter the world to explore.
  • @AutumnWillow,

Plan to spend a lot of time making the perfect avatar...day game releases, hit the randomize button and enter the world. ;)
  • Yeah, and very rarely am I happy with the very first guy I do.

That came out wrong, what I meant was, I often log into the world and think "Hold on, this isn't what I thought he'd look like" and then re-roll and try again.

Well of course Im up for seeing as much as we possibly can ^^.
I usually spend at least 1 hour making my avatar and even more deciding on class :P
But I don't think they have a lot of character creation ready yet. Maybe Im mistaken.
  • That's okay @Kratz , you just keep doing guys till you're happy with your performance. Practice makes perfect!  ;)
  • oh, nice thanks @Nurph
  • Nice find @Nurph. So, it would work like the ME Andromeda archives?

Yeap yeap yeap I'm pretty certain he confirmed this in a stream that we would have a pre character customisation much like another game *cough* BDO character creator :3 I can't wait :3 Please give my dwarvish lady some lady beards for me to play with :D
  • I like this idea.. a number of games have had something similar implemented.  It's a fun way to pass the time, but I'm venturing we're pretty far away from that.
  • Haha. Yeah. I'm guessing we might see it only closer to the actual launch.
  • I love the idea of a standalone character creation tool, that could possibly come out before the game starts.

I also think that the function to save your character appearance in a file is brilliant idea that more games should use.

On a similar note, I once pitched this idea to a friend - there ought to be a open-source character creation API. It will save companies who adopt it tons of cost, and you can just repeatedly use your favorite faces in multiple games.

    Yeeeeeah buddy!
Nothing says "home stretch hype train" like sharing screenshots of the character you're going to be playing when the game launches

No idea how that's gonna be. Maybe adopt an industry standard to face shape and size like hex colours or something.
  • I always like games that give you a code of your character so if you swap servers or something you can keep the same look.
  • Sometimes I like the character creation part better than the game. ;) I am looking forward to it.
