So is this going to be some Ashes Community inside joke now? When we disagree with someone, we just say we find them insightful?
Please don't let this happen! I've given insightful to so many people I'll be bounty hunted IRL!
  • The most important thing I know is that I don't know everything. So seeing another person's perspective, even if I don't agree, helps me to understand the situation better.

I agree with @SaeyoPrayers on having thicker skin. But... Sometimes, moderation is necessary especially when discussions take a turn for the worse and start to get toxic.

I've been tossing out Insightful like Candy, this is a bad idea!

    I hear ya buddy :scream:
  • Right open, but constructively different is the way to go.
  • I can not not agree to not disagree.

  • @Krojak Your sig!  You look like you're in a bottle of champagne now!
    You big lush you! ;)

    That's.... insightful.  :/

I felt the last one was a bit too busy, so I simplified it.
  • It's tough to always be constructive (assuming that constructive would include having a suggestion for improvement) .

But at the very least one can be civil when being negative. Hahah.

I like your new sig. It looks more macho somehow. Way better color palette too. Awesome stuff :astonished:
  • I mean constructive in a sense of, saying why you disagree is usually the best way to go. So that it's not two stone walls arguing.
  • Or as you say, at least be civil about it. It is normal to disagree, it's rude to berate someone for thinking different.
  • The most important thing I know is that I don't know everything. So seeing another person's perspective, even if I don't agree, helps me to understand the situation better.

Perhaps I should have elaborated on this a bit. Tact is always encouraged, of course. If I come out slinging ad hominem, being belligerent and rude...my points will be made moot. No one listens to it. You SHOULD have the right to say anything you want, that doesn't mean you SHOULD be utterly immature and distasteful with what you're saying. These days though, people literally tried to have the word "bossy" banned because it was offensive. That, to me, is a crock.
  • One thing to remember is the word 'Tact'; most people either don't use it or don't have it and both need to. People have a certain freedom to act how they wish and show the passion they have in different subjects, but that freedom comes with a very corrosive outcome that can eat away at even the toughest of skin depending on how thick one lays it out. Most people (should be all, but we know the drill) are open to listening if one tailors their words just right... Keep that in mind for future encounters both in-game and IRL :)
  • Or as you say, at least be civil about it. It is normal to disagree, it's rude to berate someone for thinking different.

I was called an alt account created in a huge social engineering effort by bigger publishers to undermine an indie game because I disagreed with the direction of the developers.

I wish I am kidding about this. So... yeah, let's stay civil.  :)

I can't remember what the last one looked like. Was it quite similar to the current one?

    It really is pretty though.

Errgh, that forum is the worst. I never really understood toxic till I got there.
  • And thank you.  I haven't really jumped on the Insightful bandwagon yet.  It went live while I was coming home from work and I haven't had time to partake in all the insightful fun!  (I'm also bummed out at all the older posts that would have garnered much insight upon their release, only to receive little attention now that they're buried in the depths of the forum.  )
Yep. That one insightful comment I posted three weeks ago was wasted. It could be months before I come up with another one :bawling:

I feel like the word "insightful" suddenly became a forum-wide joke this day. I'm seriously considering creating a guild on launch just to name it Insightful.
  • Use a guild name reservation for the name "Insightful" :p

I was late for Kickstarter party and learned about the game when it already ended (about a week ago), so I haven't backed the game. No rewards for me yet, including name reservations.

If this will be an option via AoC website pledge, I'll do it for sure.
  • Ah damn, hopefully the reward stuff for the AoC website pledges are cool, especially because the kickstarter backers get the stretch goal stuff from there as well. :p

  • Also I didn't say it earlier, but Journey was a beautiful game so I really like your sig. @Lilem

Not sure I understand what you just said there, but it sounded pretty insidious.
  • I'm in the No category. The less negativity we can have in our lives, the better. It's pretty simple.
  • @I_Am_Sithis , I sure hope so. If guild name reservation is not available on the website, I'd have to ask someone from the backers if they have a free slot that I could borrow :)

And yes, Journey is beautiful. I still play it from time to time, just to wander in the desert a bit. They're working on a new game, by the way.

Oops. Yeah. I know that wasn't the point you were making (against moderation) . Just wanted to build on the thicker skin discussion a little. Haha.

On the other hand, other than just asking others to be civil and respect different views. Sometimes you get to know of certain forum personalities that you know can tend to be more... Tactless or unwillingly see matters in perspectives other than their own.

In such situation, I guess it'll be less disruptive to just give up on the discussion, and move along. Heh.
  • Oh are they? I did not know that. The music in that game was just ahh so good

Voted "No" simply because you can express disagreement by actually replying and explaining what are you disagreeing with, not by stacking "Disagree" counter in someone's profile. Other than that, I don't care much.
