Glorious Alpha Two Testers!

Alpha Two Realms are now unlocked for Phase II testing!

For our initial launch, testing will begin on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10 AM Pacific and continue uninterrupted until Monday, January 6, 2025, at 10 AM Pacific. After January 6th, we’ll transition to a schedule of five-day-per-week access for the remainder of Phase II.

how BIG will AoC be in terms of landscape (compared to WoW, Gw, Eso etc...) EEEE 3.0

Was wondering if they've talked or mentioned how big the world map will be when it's all finished? Personally, the bigger it is, the better. Especially since fast traveling pretty much wont exist outside of scientific nodes, it will feel a lot bigger than in other games.

  • I would guess it would be one of the larger games out there but as we have no info it's impossible to answer with anything but guesses 
  • I hope that it's somewhat larger than BDO had.
    Like scaling the GTA V map up to an MMORPG size in details and NPC movement - that'd be very immersive :3

    I would be fine with having multiple continents, too.
    Giving us enough space for sea content (diving, sea warfare, etc), as well as having additional routes for "caravans" on the sea - building new colonies (nodes) on other contintents that no player has seen before :)
  • It is likely to be very large as an open world with 5 ZOIs but as has already been stated it's currently all guess work in trying to compare our world with WoW, ESO etc.

    @AutumnWillow This depends on the mounts available to the players.

    If mounts increase your travel speed by e.g. 150%, it might still be "large".
    If mounts increase your travel speed by e.g. 250%, it might feel very "small".
    I had this happening in BDO. Once you have an extremely fast mount, some areas "shrink" somehow.

    Not to mention those 10 people per server who can fly... :-/

    I'm not asking for the the Half Gaia Project but... would be pretty sweet.  Never going to happen though xD

    I sincerely hope this won't be an option. Playing a Dwarf riding a donkey at 250% speed would be immersion breaking of the most profound. Legs would be a blur.
  • I'd love expansive mountain ranges - my favorite game areas are always wooded mountains (think: Timberline Falls from GW2 or the Grizzly Hills from wotlk).

    We know that, as a result of the kickstarter, there will be naval and underrealm content, so I hope the mountainous/forested regions of the game are not neglected :)

    TLDR - please give us more than one hill as a "mountain range"

    I get you and I don't expect it either lol. This isn't like NMS or Minecraft where they just generate randomized terrain everywhere. That'd be crazy with no fast travel though can you imagine? You end up half way across the world from your buddy on horse back lol...

    That's where the fairy rings and the gates come into play I'd assume, but we're not getting any of that.

  • I love the fact that they chose to keep fast traveling out of the game, almost 100%. Fast traveling just ruins that exploration desire for me. Why design beautiful nature if youre only going to conveniently gwleport past it everytime? This has been bothering me for so long and I'm so glad that they will keep it out. It should take time to travel the world by foot or horse. Maybe they can add a "set camp" element for the nights,  where you make a bonfire and set up a small tent and just wait there until first light, given that there would be more dangerous monsters lurking about at night. In that sense i hope thst the death penalty also is pretty harsh, so that the will to survive will be stroner. 
  • The fact that we have a Top Surface and a Underground makes it close to 1.5 of whatever we see on a Map from Sky view plausible. I -pray- we get enough to really explore... Imo World of Warcraft's Azeroth is too small and this is counting the Broken Isle, Panderia, and Northrend; I want bigger, and some underwater content isn't bad even if Water Questing is cancer XD::::

    But I do need to understand, that there needs to be room for Expansions and new content!

    I may have misunderstood, but I believe there are a lot more than five ZOIs.  Five is just the cap on the number of metropolises that can be developed.

    Some of us have been improvising with [AGREE].  There has also been some [INSIGHTFUL] spotted here and there.   :)
