Bright flashing signatures. Pretty please avoid them and spare my eyes?

Hi,
Oh good grief. I this feels like such a 'get off my lawn moment. I have a problem with flashing lights. I won't have a  seizure from seeing them. (I really hope that never happens) They do really bother my eyes and can cause a migraine etc. Yes, It is lame and sucky but, I can't really read the posts that have those whiter/light colored flashing.

I know I could turn it off so I don't see signatures but I love seeing most of them. So please consider the 'flashiness' level of your signatures. Just because it would be really appreciated.
As more and more people make signatures I accept it will be more common. Just trying to slow down the tide. :)

  • Heh. I hope mines not too flashy. I was trying to keep the flashiness in check.
  • see im not sure if I should post as I have a flashing sig but, in the end, it's up to the person if they want a sig like that. if it bugs you that much I think it best to ask the people personal than making this thread
  • Fair point, I will message people as I see the signatures.  I think the level of flash I am trying to avoid are more like this level:

I don't consider AutumnWillow's and Nagash's to be flashy.  Is a fair point, now people will worry if they are too flashy. Well, some people will worry. :)

What happened to your animated sig?

Aah cool, looking forward to it :)
  • I can't say I disagree with you about super flashy sigs. They're annoying, and more than likely the people who have them are perfectly aware of this, and chose it for that reason. Or they just don't care...people are trolls. So unfortunately, I kind of doubt this thread will do any good in changing their mind. I wish you luck in your quest for less-flashy sigs though.

While I don't have this issue with any forum sigs here, I can sympathize.
I've suffered from occasional visual migraines since I was in elementary school.
It's very strange what may or may not trigger such things.  Whatever the cause, they're not fun.

(Sleep used to be the only thing to get rid of it for me, until a pharmacist recommended Extra Strength Excedrin to me, and that stuff has been a lifesaver ever since.)
  • We've been pretty lucky, I feel. A lot of the sigs on this forum are pretty chill. I hope this continues, however I spend a lot of my time on here through my phone, so it really doesn't matter too much.
  • I understand your problem.  There are some that are real flashy. I too have had problems at times with bright or flashing light.  But we as individuals do have the option to turn them off.  I think after some time the forum Gods will put in some kind of restrictions for the signatures including size.  Also I don't think for something like this we as individuals should complain when given an option to not view it.  That gives us the choice of seeing them or not.  Why should we take the choice from others?
  • Signature images are supposed to be automatically scaled to a maximum height of 400px according to the forums but that doesn't seem to be working.
  • What about one that looks like the 80'

    Thank god for that
  • My thoughts were that people might not be aware that really flashy signatures can cause problems for others. I feel that in most cases people don't know that it would matter.  For example, a child doesn't know that flashing a flashlight in someone's eyes is annoying until they are told. Now, these are not children making the signatures but they might not equate the two ideas.

So what I did was a plea not a command. It was a request with some explanation to give people something to ponder. I am not the only one here who will appreciate less flashy signatures. Of course, I can all turn it off so I can't see them. It would be nice to be able to see them many of the signatures. I can't control (or want to) others but I can make them aware.

Now, wouldn't it be a lovely option to turn off some signatures so that the choice of others doesn't leave me with only one choice.  :)

@Krojak, I should look at the forums on my phone but then my phone would always run out of batteries.  Too much fun to keep up on with this community.

@RumbleforgeExtra Strength Excedrin is lovely stuff. I have taken it many times.  :)

@nagash, I think the creepy factor of your signature is creeping up as you tone it down.  I like it.

  • @Karthos Late 80s or early 80s? I mean, a signature that comes with shoulder pads would be scary. Talking Heads and Twisted Sister.... hmmm.  :)
  • Well I hope mine is not too flashy for you.  I AGREE with @AutumnWillow that the auto sizing isn't working.

Multiple choice is always nice.   :)
  • @T-Elf yours is bright but not what I would call flashing. I like it. :)
  • I see what you mean with the over the top sigs
  • Glad to hear it. :)
  • I tried my best to be over the top... I failed.
  • @Zarivan
'It burnsIt burns us! It freezes! Nasty elves twisted it. Take it off us!".

    (always blame the elves)
  • What is the method for turning off the flashes?
  • @Morriganna, all I know is of one for turning off the entire signatures. :)
  • What is the method for turning off the flashes?

Tick the "hide signature always" box in your signature settings.

Thanks! I just try not to look directly at the real flashy sigs so I know how you feel @Sozia

That's it... flashy signature... you asked for it!
  • The flashing sigs don't bother me. Though, I am usually lurking the forum from my phone. I can definitely understand how they mess with some people. Have a friend that has seizures.

Oooh, I just saw your sig from my desktop. It's nice.

It could use a little more flashy stuff though according to @Sozia>:)
