What Sold You on Ashes?

A question, what is it that made you say "Huh, this game sounds like everything i ever wanted from an MMO" In other words, what sold you on Ashes? For me, it has to be the endless potential for political drama. The type of drama that can arise when a community of gamers, whether it be an alliance or a coalition of alliances, aggresses on another community of gamers. The result is an all out war where both sides bring out their best. Trying to out smart as well as out gun your enemy reminds me of my prime days in EvE online, and ashes is bringing it to the next level. I find it extremely interesting because with one act of aggression, or kindness, an entirely new relationship that has huge ramifications arises.. It's just......." Interesting"...So, what is yours?

  • The RP possibilities, and potential for story/character  development. The environment, the seasonal changes, the strife of building civilization. The potential for conflict both small and large. The ever changing world that breathes and changes with the individual server. All these things and more are why I'm here, and hope that all come true.
  • I initially liked the idea of the nodes. Reminded me of the things I was looking forward to in Everquest Next.. only.. to top it off in my book, non cartoony/anime graphics.
  • The mere aspect that everything i do will have a greater purpose to the community. It's nice to feel that your contributing to something bigger than your own personal success :)
i can wait to see the world we create and the differences between servers :D

I came from Lineage 2. Alot of the dev team has alot of hours playing L2. What really sold me is when Steven told me Lineage 2 was his favorite MMO. Since then I have seen alot of L2 in the design and concepts, and I love it!

After that I would say that the Ashes community is the most amazing group of people I have been around in my gaming life. That alone is a strong selling point.
  • The no pay to win stance.

I couldn't agree more. Publishers and developers always take a vague stance when it comes to the "Pay to Win:" subject. Here pay to win is exchanging real life money for in-game advantage. It's disgusting to be honest. I like how open the interpid team is when discussing their business model and their philosophy. Simple and straightforward. No vagueness. +10

The dev teams unheard of transparency was also a huge perk in getting my full buy in.
  • I like the concepts they were putting out. I don't expect the game to be what they thought it was going to be but it might be something else that is also cool.  So I figured 'Why not'.
  • Steven's passion toward making a true and fun MMO, nuff said.
  • The no pay to win aspect.

    This.
  • They had me at "Hi". Kidding.

Their integrity is what hooked me. No one is perfect but I see that they are trying to be as honest as possible and for me, that's huge.
  • For me, it was when I started to talk to the community and the devs and I saw how much input we would have.
  • the passion of intrepid studios  , got me hooked

    The no Pay 2 Win
The fact that Steven actually plays MMO's
The fact that some of the guys worked on Vanguard (my all time favourite MMO)
The holy trinity (Tank, DPS, Support/Heals)
    An interesting crafting system

Edit: forgot to mention, those Sandals were the final thing that sold it for me
  • The node system, freeholds and the crafting ideas. And of course the p2w stance.
I like having my own place in games and customizing those places. And while it isn't confirmed I believe, the whole thing about having the option to pick individual parts when you're crafting a weapon.
  • The very first thing that drew me in was the graphics. Yes, yes I know "graphics < gameplay" to most people, but to me graphics are very important, and boy does AoC seem to deliver on that part. Then when I started looking deeper into the promised features, freeholds and animal husbandry came up and I was completely hooked!

For me, it has to be the drama, especially the political drama that can arise when discussing different aspects of Ashes, such as nodes, caravans, and Node sieges. I find it extremely interesting to witness the lengths some would go to protect their precious investments in-game. The friendships and the rivalries that will form following one act of aggression or kindness. It reminds me of my prime days in EVE online. It's just........................." Interesting". So, what is yours?
Not the game, the sandals... The holy sandals of Steven got me here.
  • The no pay to win theme, but also the mechanics with nodes and giving as a game the power to people so they can destroy and create. Think there are many different things you can do in this game

Guess I'll have to disappoint you then. No I'm not. I just like the Dolan memes
  • The fact that I was able to spend $1,000 on a forever-unique skin. P2W = pay to wardrobe.

Honestly, it was the dev involvement in the community, their commitment to impactful gameplay (something that I have been looking for but haven't stumbled across yet), and the apparent depth of the class system that were the primary drivers of my interest in Ashes. I strongly hope that these aspects of the game live up to how the Intrepid team has described them!

DAoC has ever to have an MMO that equaled peoples passion for the faction. Making PvP the best I have seen in the many years of MMOing. IMO the node system with bring a type of pride to one side of the battle we have not seen since DAoC. Also being a EQN fan, many of the things I loved about that game is making it to Ashea. Dynamic events from server to server. The way they are approaching skills. An under world, where exploring will not just be top side. Hope they pull it off =-)
  • For me, I saw everything they're offering -- thus far -- as an amazing opportunity to once again find the rich community I've longed for, for so long. The world's great, the mechanics are great, but the things they're excluding from the game (p2w, "traditional" endgame idiocy, so on and so forth) give me the feeling that they're more interested in their players having the ability to build communities, rather than just "play to win."

That's a huge draw for me.

There are many things I look forward to so it's hard to chose the top 3 but I will try:

    - open PvP, story reliant on PvP (PvP isn't only self serving)
    - No P2W!
    - a promising (and communicative) studio that's not on my "black list"

And, of course, an added bones:

    - moderators that are known gankers  <3

    (who said that?!)
  • Me? Mostly laser raptors.
  • Seeing the team's passion to make their game grow was a seller for me. Also, the no p2w aspect.
  • 1. The variety that will be present in the game
    2. No PTW
    3. The open communication from the devs
