Bartle and other gamer personality tests

Haven't seen this yet in the forums and was just wondering what everyone's thoughts where on personality tests for gamers was.

Bartle is the main one I know of. What others do you know about?

Comments

  • I feel only simple minded people need these kind of tests
  • Bartle has been posted in another discussion and quite a few people took it.  But since the search feature doesn't work, good luck finding that thread.  :P

A good test has a lot of utility.  The Bartle test is not a good test.

I am playing around with the idea of modeling a test.  I think you have to try to control for 2 things: gameplay style and communication/leadership-follower style for VC.

Take a look at the DISC for workplace test some time.

Just curious as to why you feel that way?
  • @Ninja Shadow That's a good question. @AutumnWillow would be proud.  :)

  • Quantic Foundry actually has a very good one. While I don't think it tells me anything I don't know, it's a good way of narrowing down those little "iffy" questions you may have. Me? I'm more interested in community, story, and the environment, less interested in leaderboards et al. I prefer collecting things, and I'm a completionist, but I don't require them to enjoy a game.
  • haha. I post my Bartle Score several times per week.
    Explorer 87%; Socializer 73% ; Achiever 47%; Killer 0%
I should probably put it in my sig.

Interesting because I don't consider communication/leadership-follower style to even be a factor. Not something I care about in a group (or out of a group).
So, it would be fascinating to see where such a test would place me.

I do care about Bartle Score.

  • I had just seen another posters Bartle score in another thread and then saw this post which convinced me too determine my Bartle score 87% Explorer, 47% Socializer, 33% Achiever and 33% Killer.  I do not know of any others but I did find it interesting.  Although I quibble with the statistical validity due to too few questions but it was interesting and seems to me to be somewhat accurate.  Although I believe that my scores would change based on my mood at the time and circumstances.  I did like the original paper that was used to develop the taxonomy for the test as well.

But I have a few problems with the fantasy questions as they focused on being someone else in a world and not did not include being yourself in another world other then that it looks like a good one

    @Possum

I seem to get a bit of variations for one test source to another
  • That link you did to nickyee didn't work for me.  Said it was archived.

I gotta say, it's pretty dead-on for me, though, @Ninja Shadow, I agree with you about the fantasy components.

I don't really need one either I just use it for a way to show others what/how I like to play. Basically a conversation tool
  • I had done the Quantic Foundry test some time ago.  I just logged into the site and retrieved my results.  They're pretty dead on.

As you can see, I relish design, discovery, community and the fantasy element far more than I do competition, power and destruction.  As you might guess from this assessment, I am a reluctant PvPer.  I'll avoid it if I can.  Fight if I must.  As the saying goes, "I'm a lover, not a fighter".
