Which node city do you think will last the longest?

Also why do you think that node will last the longest?

The one that is successful against all sieges? xD
  • We don't know how the economy will work out over time but, if earth history is an indicator, the richest node will last the longest
  • Money rules.

A strong economic node will be able to buy gear soldiers and bribes.
  • We don't know how the economy will work out over time but, if earth history is an indicator, the richest node will last the longest
It does make sense that this will be true. Either it will be successful enough for people to realize its necessity and not mess with it, or it will be replaced by an economic node that is.
  • I am predicting that it will be a military port node that will tax the hell out of caravans under threat of violence that is housed by a top tier raid guild.

IF "most" PvP focused guilds would go for military node, then military node simply because a zerg of organized PvP vets > zerg of PvE plebs. At least siege wise. ;)
  • God is with us
  • I feel like military should be strongest on the field if it has proper incentives/benefits. That said, this could easily cause people to ban against military nodes.
  • Eventhough with my initial thoughts I'd like to play in Scientific node, I think Economic Node will be the most common node lasting for a long time.
  • Probably the military node, who would launch an attack on a node speciallized on combat, with there being science and economic ones?
  •  Knowing what little we know I'd probably pick the military one.
  • I feel like military should be strongest on the field if it has proper incentives/benefits. That said, this could easily cause people to ban against military nodes.
This is why I don't pick military. I saw this happen several times in another game.
  • all about the money in the end
  • Science reign supreme, without science, no fine techniques to mine ores and make money to spend, without science, no fine weapons to fight wars, without science, only dirty, ragged fanatics, armed with sticks and cholera, that charge screaming from top of the hill. Science is the mean to victory, go science!
  • Humans are lazy beings, they will take the scientific node just to get some fast travel. especially if those scientific nodes are strategically placed in the world to offer the best access to everything
  • I think that the Economic node will be safest as you are not going to burn down the local shop you need it.
  • I believe it will be either the Scientific, or the Economic node. I could only choose one, so I figured I always liked science.

    That's what I'm worried about ;)

Agree, but the node system in Ashes looks like it will balance out with military being dependent on the other node types. And if it isn't balanced, we'll find out pretty early on in the testing.
  • The gods will punish the wicked, whosoever dares to raise the sword against their chosen wards!  The blasphemous shall be smote upon the earth!

However, if the gods turn their backs on us, than a safe retreat to my next favorite node, Scientific, would be most prudent.  Though, I believe that "science" in this game, refers to "high magic".

    Fun times, ahead!
  • I say military.

Pretty much the sole reason is that the leader has to win in gladiatorial combat, so they are probably going to be all about focusing resources on military functions, defenses, and offenses.  As much as able, anyway.  A large portion of the population will also be big into PvP, so it will give them an edge in the sieges.  Bounty hunters being only available to military nodes (as far as announced anyway) means that they will be practiced in PvP techniques.

That said, they may not be rich enough to afford to go siege other nodes very often, as they might be a bit lighter in crafters and auction market masters.  But....I think they would outlast a siege on their city better than the other nodes.
  • The military node because it will be full of PVPers who will make the most effort to defend it.  Economic is a popular choice because people wont want to destroy the economic node cuz that is where they get all their stuff but Artisan types are less likely to be the type of people that spend a lot of time getting good at pvp.  I'm a PVX player who will specialize in artisan. I can hold my own in PVP but cant compete with hardcore PVPers. And I love PVP so I think my statement is not to far from the truth.
  • the best pvpers will work for the richest players and therefore they will not be in the military nodes but instead will farm easier to kill players until threatened.
  • Every node is going to depend on the economic node in the long run. Military will be needed to help defend it and the caravans.  Everyone feels the Military will be all powerful and mostly pvp types.  That's fine. But even PvP'ers will need what the Economic  node and crafters have to offer.   Cooperation is going to be more important then many realize.
  • People are going to defend the economic node. If the auction houses/markets are local to each node then the big overarching node that consolidate them is going to be way too much of a convenience for people to be willing to give up. In fact I expect people will work together to ensure whichever economic node is most centralized on the world map will be a metropolis. After that I expect science nodes with the fast travel will be the more common so people can get to the primary trading hub more easily. They haven't given us the global benefits of military and religious metropolis because they haven't found a perk to equal the extreme value of the econ and science ones that are announced.
  • Suppressing the advancement of the military node while building the economic node is my beta game. Should the military node become too powerful too early it would be a shame because eliminating it late game will probably be impossible. Building up science and economic growth ensures a more free society. An impossibly powerful military node inhabited by the bloodthirsty is what I expect late game if it goes unchecked.
  • Praise be!

With the size of the world, combined with the sheer randomness of node type placement, I'm not sure how feasible it would be for players to plan out some kind of centralized economic hub, with strategically placed scientific metropoli.  That would be a large, and complicated undertaking.

Also, Steven has already stated that there would be only 5 metropoli per server, and that they would be placed very far apart from one another, due to their large sphere of influence.  And, that's not taking into account the majority of players would have to agree to that kind of undertaking.  Good luck with that, lol.

But, your idea is interesting to contemplate.
  • I believe the military node will be the hardest to penetrate however I do think think the economic node could also do well due to the resources to buy out defence soldiers, weapons, etc.
