Which node city do you think will last the longest?

  • If the devs get the balance right, all node types will have equal chance of destruction. Achieving this balance will be tricky though, but it's kind of the fundamental meta of the game, so I'm hoping lots of tuning and testing goes into it.
  • People are going to defend the economic node. If the auction houses/markets are local to each node then the big overarching node that consolidate them is going to be way too much of a convenience for people to be willing to give up. In fact I expect people will work together to ensure whichever economic node is most centralized on the world map will be a metropolis. After that I expect science nodes with the fast travel will be the more common so people can get to the primary trading hub more easily. They haven't given us the global benefits of military and religious metropolis because they haven't found a perk to equal the extreme value of the econ and science ones that are announced.
With the size of the world, combined with the sheer randomness of node type placement, I'm not sure how feasible it would be for players to plan out some kind of centralized economic hub, with strategically placed scientific metropoli.  That would be a large, and complicated undertaking.

Also, Steven has already stated that there would be only 5 metropoli per server, and that they would be placed very far apart from one another, due to their large sphere of influence.  And, that's not taking into account the majority of players would have to agree to that kind of undertaking.  Good luck with that, lol.

But, your idea is interesting to contemplate.
You are assuming more random than I think possible. There is going to be an economic node that is somewhat central on the world map. There will be big guilds that will try to manipulate what nodes grow big. You can bet your ass those guilds are going to want a centeralized trading hub. That centrally located econ node will thus be selected to become a metropolis.
  • I believe the military node will be the hardest to penetrate however I do think think the economic node could also do well due to the resources to buy out defence soldiers, weapons, etc.
Not a good enough reason to use the word penetrate.

I get what you're saying, ,but how exactly are these guilds supposed to know which locations are the most centralized, when they have no idea of the lay of the land.

At launch, we're all going to be tossed into a vast, open world, shrouded by a fog of war.  Players will need to explore, in order to get a feel for their surroundings.  Add to that, there will be different portals that players will enter the world through, that will be placed far apart from each other.  Add to that, there is no quick travel.  Only feet, and hooves, in the beginning,

While players explore, they will contribute to the node in their ZOI, just by doing the most menial of tasks.  When a camp springs up, it'll be flavored in a way that tells you it's type.  If you like the type of node, keep building it up.  If not, players will move on. But players will follow their own interests, in this regard.

So, to get a whole region, much less a whole map, with all the variables that are intrinsic in such an undertaking, would be MASSIVELY time consuming.  Granted, not impossible, but highly improbable.  Though, I don't doubt that there will be those that will try what you suggest.  Like I said, an interesting concept.

Hrm.  Not sure how I feel about a filthy Skaven, being my god...

Had a second to think about it.  Nope.  Don't like that idea, at all.   :p

According to the info we have they are looking at multiple weeks for the final node upgrade to metropolis. The world will be explored enough in that time to figure out the best location for an econ metropolis.
