So this is less a "doing the right thing" for me as simply a calculation for maximum benefit. There will supposedly be a reward for whichever side wins. So I calculate that most caravans will get to their destination with little resistance. In fact if that isn't the case then nobody will use them. So when the "wanna help" popup appears I'll select the help option most of the time.

So you're going with the logical option. I see :-) I wonder if there will be a guild of highwaymen. Leaders of nodes may hire them to embargo competing nodes. AoC has me too hyped.

I say aid, but in the end if I the caravan has something I'd want or need and I can solo it.. bye bye caravan.. 
But then again that also still depends if it's for my own node or not, not going to pillage something that will help my node directly.

If I was solo, I'd likely do nothing unless specifically asked by the caravan for help. In which case I'd have to consider the strength of their defence and decide whether me helping them would make any difference or not.

If I had my guild with me, I'd size up the defence and decide whether attacking or assisting was in our best interests.

In both cases the decision I'd probably go with is to neither attack or defend.

I would quickly see which guildies are online and how bored we all are and make a decision from their whether to join in (either way) or just go about my business.
Until we know the reward for help/time caravan takes vs doing something else/time caravan takes it is too early for me to tell what i'm likely to often do.

Being honest... It depends on which guild leads the caravan, but if I'm completely indefferent to it, I might as well hit it xD

I am not a religious man but I do believe in the old adage do on to others as you would have done on to yourself. Hence I will have a toon designed for the job of bounty hunter and people assistance in general. Fighting the perceived bad guys is what I live for. Unless they want to buy my stuff then anything goes lol.

Well as a bard it would be illogical to raid a caravan on my own....so the tactical move would be to support the caravan....
However if I'm with a group of people and you have shinies that I may need....andI don't like your face ~~ maybe a different story?

A caravan that is of no consequence to a merchant? I doubt there will ever be a case. 

I would have to do cost-benefit analysis after I understand more about the situation.

I think I'll default to helping caravans if the reward is sufficient for the time invested. 

The only reason I'd attack is for the sake of my guild or to get revenge for myself, friends, guildies, my node, etc. but I would need to know a little bit about the caravan.

If I didn't have insider information, I'd likely ignore the caravan or defend it.

Well I couldn't tell your intentions with your sig full of paladins lol. I'm not going to look for a guild until closer to launch or at least beta.  I will be on a euro server. if you are too I will defo keep you in mind

Really, I wouldn't pick any of the 2 choices provided, unless I have a valid reason to be involved. But, since you explicitly said that "you have no stock in [it], neither for nor against", I'd choose the "this is none of my business" option.

Poll is especially lacking a "This doesn't concern me" option for a topic labeled "have no stock in".

There will be plenty of times that we do have stock in the caravans because we need the goods to build the city or we want to prevent a city from growing.
If we're defending otherwise, it's probably going to be due to helping friends or allies.
If we're attacking otherwise, it's probably because we're hoping to grab some loot.

And then there's the folk who just love PvP combat.

I voted for aid the caravan but to be honest I'm not sure I would do either unless I was asked by someone to help in one way or another. I'm sure they wont be that easy to raid anyway.

I'd also go for an I have no idea option, I have no idea because I haven't yet fully got my head around the world, how easy a target a caravan might be against what I might gain, how much people suffer personal loss from an attacked caravan etc...

I'd love to say I would aid it rather than attack it, but then I might end up so invested in the economics of the node and know that another player / guild is bringing in goods to manipulate prices etc.. in which case I will attempt an attack..

I expect it to be likely that many caravans don't get attacked at all. So if I decide to accompany it as defender I might be just wasting time.
If I attack, I can be sure that there will be some nice fights.

I'm in the boat of "most caravans will survive, so I may as well make some coin/exp from it, too!" school of thought.  Besides, I like helping when I can.

Now...if I'm already busy and simply don't wanna be turned away from what I'm doing....I'll ignore.

This would really depend on a variety of factors. Each case by case scenario would be different.

I would just come, burn a couple carriages, take some hostag... volunteers, and leave, with all the grace and pride that my elvish descent can gift me.
