To me, 100% active dodge and block means that it's 100% based on player skills and 0% character skills.
    I don't know what 100% avoidance means.

RNG proc should be proc for other skills besides just block.
Games of chance are games of chance.
RPGs typically include some form of RNG - I don't know that they must include RNG.
But, an RPG must include some way to increase damage avoidance as you build your character rather than relying 100% on player skills.
your idea that all RPGs must have the same mechanics is a bit off mate.
  • I didn't state that all RPGs have to have the same mechanics.
But, you know, all ball games have to include a ball.
  • Given I plan to make a battle mage, I know already my mage will have shield, so I do agree with some charging into battle with it raised would be cool. Maybe it could be both an active and passive.

Like for the most part it is rng for those that are not the standard shield users, but for those, like an actual tank, it can be an active "cooldown", with a short duration cooldown. So about every 5 seconds or so it comes off cooldown where you can use it to block an attack to mitigate damage-- and how much damage is mitigated is based on your stat skill.

This would allow for straight up tanks to possibly actually block all incoming damage if they do it right, but it all comes down to timing and also hoping they didn't pick a "poor" time to do it, because on the other side of the fence....

The attacker could then try to goad the tank to use it, before they unleash their heavy attack. This would then add tactics into the pvp side and players, both side, will have to think over when this is the best time to do this, because even in pvp, 5 seconds could be all the difference of success or failure.

    TL;DR version:
I think it should be mitigation across the board with shields, but tanks get the actual "cooldown" ability that allows them to do far more defense, to complete block. However, it comes down to timing then in pvp for Tanks, because while they can do a full block of an attack, that may give an attacker an opening to use their heavier attack if the tank times it wrong.

STEVEN: The question is will there be RNG elements to combat relating to specific stats such as critical hits, evasion, blocking chance... and the answer is: Yes. There will be those elements available in the game.
