Server Vs Server

  • Not sure about battlegrounds.

But I thought they already stated that they were intending that their arena's did allow for individuals from different servers to fight one another?

Not sure -- certainly been wrong before and will be again -- but I believe that'll be more arena-style and not a specific, targeted "Server v Server" match. Players will be playing against other players from other servers, but it won't be a thing that promotes the servers, per se, rather just gives a very broad pool to select from in players.

    I think.
  • There can be tournaments between players by PVP.
  • entire thread is rendered moot by how the game world works, all servers will be entirely different because of how the node system and development within a said server occurs. where 1 town is on 1 server there may be nothing there on another, where X mobs exist on 1 server they don't on another, etc. etc.  list goes on and on.  server vs. server is useless in how this game is fundamentally designed. i see no point or value in having server vs. server. it creates nothing...if the game is good, systems such as these only serve a purpose in failing or poorly designed games where they need some kind of catch to retain players that enjoy seeing a name on a leaderboard.

in 19 years of playing mmorpgs from across the globe i have never seen a single mmorpg where this held any value what-so-ever. I'm trying right now as hard as i can to think of a game that was worth playing more than 30d that had server vs. server.....and i cannot for the life of me do it.

or did you mean realm vs. realm? in that case ashes has no "factions" no good or bad guys, there will be realm vs. realm, players will be participating in it at some point and not realize it.  for example when players of a holy city need more of this or that and this militaristic city across the river is stiffling resources that could be gathered there...then the Holy city aligned players will go crusade against the militaristic aligned players and thus technically have a faction oriented pvp that could...possibly be deemed as realm vs. realm, since each metropolis in the game could be a realm in it's own....it would just be created by the players and not designated within character creation screen....bleh, i hate talking about gaming...i end up just goin on bout this or that forever....could discuss it for weeks on end...oh wait...i do lol
  • I voted no purely because it would take away lots or development resources that are better spent elsewhere (among other things, making every day in-server PvP better).
  • As a feature to be made in the future expansions, I would like it. Not now, there are more important things to focus on in PVP like making open world PVP more fluid and the small scale instanced PVP as balanced as possible.

It has defeats the whole purpose and aspect of the game as  it is  now and that will not change in the future.
Where do you even see instanced PvP?  Arenas?
  • *sighs* Another themepark feature that has no place in a game that's mainly a sandbox mmo.

GW2 has this feature, why aren't you playing it?
  • Well, of course, Ashes is a thembox - not mainly sandbox...
Nevertheless, the feature doesn't fit the specific game design. AFAIK
  • I'd love to have a huge battleground fight against other servers. It could be instances so that no bode would be affected or even have an extra node for the servers to fight over that can't be built into a metropolis so it doesn't affect the rest of the server nodes. Just a place with extra resources. But I would totally prefer an instances version of it.

You can have competition between servers without an actual battle.  Have events that require progression and unlock new scenarios after certain parameters have been met.  For example, collect 100,000 of this, or kill 1,000 players to advance to the next step, as a server.

This still accomplishes the same concept behind server vs server, which is competition, without the logistics of a battle.
Ick. Grind. And again, for what? Name on a leaderboard? Um ... I'll be over here, building my character in this nice shiny world. See ya!

I didn't mention anything about a leaderboard.  Could that be an aspect of what I mentioned?  Absolutely it could be, but it could also serve as a system of unlocking new content.  Want to unlock this new area?  You need 100,000 lumber to build a contraption to clear this forest to get to a new area.  The competition aspect stems from your server or node being the first to accomplish this feat.

Ironically, you are still grinding by "building your character in this nice shiny world", however, you are just choosing to dedicate yourself to the game in a different way.
  • I would like to see a lastman standing siege fight. Without respawning.

Since i wrote that, sieges should not allaw respawn. Only resurrection from healers.

That way it would go fast and a side would win or lose in a logic way and not a respawning fest and keep zerking in.
  • More plebs to showcase my combat prowess to, sure! Bring out your dead!

i see no point in it. and as to what the purpose of the game and its lore is. pretty unneeded and useless. could be fun to pvp masses of people(not imo) but still uneeded, useless, and would do nothing for this game. its not gw2.
It would do nothing? Its a fun event for thousends of people xD Poeple play for that stuff.

There's grind, and then there's character development (in my wee little brain). Grind is the ick that you have to do, every single bloody day, just to be "viable."

As for the original question, I stand behind what I've said above, and ... well? It's my opinion, aye?

    Have a good one!
