Is it possible to make a character creation too in depth

Yea, it is possible, I am not sure which game it was, but you could make the most ridiculous things, so ridiculous as to break immersion.

Aion?  You could in that game.
  • I have never tried BDO but I don't think you could get to in depth you just end up skimming though it a bit fast. That allows people who want to do an in depth character customisation the chance to do so.

I don't remember, I think it was one from the Asian market. You could make people with faces almost shaped like a cross, or make them super tiny with huge heads. None-sense like that kills it for me. Up to the point of me simply not playing because it turns me off so much xD (petty, I know)

I constantly check out my character, for research purposes...
    Uhu
That would be the opposite sex with the perfect figure right ?
    hehe
I guess when you're desperate like Xombie, undead princesses start looking real good.
At this level of desperation, everything looks good.

This is a 14 min video of Aion Character Creation at about 7:20 you will get some idea of how you might make strange toons.  Especially around 10:00 on the male you can see even more unusual shapes.  There are ads but they can be skipped at 10 sec.

Your manbreasts are your most appealing feature, besides that sweet Limp Bizkit goatee of course. Don't be such a hater, or you'll be sleeping in the couch!
  • I don't think there can be to much. Aside from Aion which is severly outdated tho, I haven't seen all to many good character creations. BDO was over-glorified in my opinion. Styleisation aside, every class had to stay in a pretty tight boundary.
You had 100s of sliders that did minimal changes, that could add up to a bit of diversity granted and people can get creative with what little is given, but the only thing that really stood out was the hair customisation. Everything else felt just like bloated filler ware.
For me, as long as I get a good hair customization I'm good, after all that's the only thing you will ever notice while playing, at all. <wink wink, smirk>

Well let's look at other character creators aside from BDO.

Oblivion's and Skyrim's are in depth and have a ton of custom mods to make it even more in depth. People will spend at least an hour making a character. Then you have the Souls/Bloodborne games, not as in depth but still pretty detailed.

These games are best sellers and most people just go with the default options too. I don't think it's possible to have one that's too in depth because the people who want a custom character are gonna go for it no matter what. The people who want to jump into the game are gonna go with the defaults. It's win/win for both sides.
I believe there isn't a cc that is too in depth, If I can make my character fit in the world while making them look like my own,  mission accomlished in my book.

My favorite ccs were Dragon's Dogma, and White Knight Chronicles, as they went all the way with variation, and you could make just about anyone in the game with it.  It's like being given the same tools as the devs to make your own protagonist.
  • Me after I finished creating my characters:

  • When it comes to making my lovely characters, this is no such thing as too complex :-)

If it is too complex for you, do what many folk above mentioned, and just get a random close to what you want, then tweak it.
  • My sister plays Skyrim. And when I say "plays" what she does is create a new character, and mess with the creation features. She's never once left Hegan.

There have been a few times that I've done the same

Edit: though it's usually after I've played the game a while on 1st character
  • there's a point that it becomes a little daunting but I wouldn't say theres a limit. as long as theres no gender locked classes everything should work itself out
  • it can never be to in-depth, if it takes me 3 days to make my character, then I'd just be all the more happy with my character, lol.  Yes that is an exaggeration, but you get the point.

The more options the better, but ensuring every option has limits based on the reality of the game is necessary.

I just hope they release the character creation module a week ahead. I don’t want to lose that whole first day of gameplay consumed with creating my character – happened before and will happen again.

  • It's great to have options to make the character your own, and not a template with 10 000 identical twins running around xD

What I find most games lack these days is different parameters for the hair.(Not played BDO, heard they did a good job with it).

IF we are talking about the bad things about having alot of options. Well.... I guess we have all had that one friend that we have played with. That never ever can make up their mind and end upp fiddling with the parameters for hours upon hours. And you realize you just could have watched a movie while they made a character xD
  • I don't think you can have too many options. If you feel weird because you didn't use all the options then i think that's on you. Just because there are a lot of options doesn't mean you have to use them all. In bdo, skipped a lot of the options, especially in the beginning. I think i just changed hair color and eye color in the beginning.

But I like it when the devs give you the option to go back and do character creation again. It's nice to have the piece of mind that i don't need to make my character perfect first the first time.
  • The more options the better.

This is assuming we will be able to create our characters before launch, so we have enough time to spend in character creation relaxed. And then when game launches just load a saved template and go
  • At a certain point it's better they just give you CAD and a course in how to use it  :D
  • Each to their own.
Rarely do I spend more than 5 mins on my character's looks...I'll  start with a quick 'ready-made' option of some sort that seems basically fine but then adapt that slightly (e.g. I might make sure a tank is particularly tall, muscular and imposing in stature, or a rogue/stealth character as small and unnoticeable as possible, say...).
But my main interest is to get into the game itself.

    Are you sure about that?
  • One of the Reasons I liked City of Heroes and City of villains was because of the character creeation choices.   I perosnally like have lots of options to refine a character such as jewelry, tattoos, scars,
Some things liek body types, nose dept, eyes slant and size I do not mind having only a limited set of chocies.  Things liek tattoos, jewelry clothign patterns are things that I p refer to see having many more choices in
  • I personally love aion cc and I hope in aoc we will be able to make chibis just like in aion or bns lyn.
  • Since you can share character customizations, it should not be too big of an issue. If you are overwhelmed, ask someone to make you one.
  • As long as the character adjustments are within the realm of the games realistic standards you can never go to far with character creation.
  • Yes, they shouldn't allow skin and hair colors that aren't natural tones or present in established fantasy. beyond that...
    No, everything is fair RPGs

Worst thing to break someone immersion is to watch a bright fucking pink skinned green haired ogre of a man run past your screen on a pony that couldn't carry a gnome. while typing lyrics to Beautiful.
