  • I'll probably upgrade around then. I want a 4K gaming beast when Ashes releases.
  • I would love to build a new one for ashes just don't know how much I'll be able to spend at the time
  • Oh yea most deffenitly, the game looks amazing and anything less then the highest setting would be unacceptable.
  • There's no option for not planning :C

I'll probably upgrade my graphics card in the next 2 years though.
  • I don't know how to make them so I'll be off to shops to see what is available xD
Plus I have me and my partner to think of so double costs xD

If you know someone who can, you can make it cheaper then in the store and make it to your wishes as pleasing to the eye and performance <3

Safe some money monthly and keep away from that stash. xD Its hard, I mostly throw my money at whatever I like but now I keep it a little safer cause I want this.
  • Hooefully by that time a 35", HDR, 144Hz, Gsync screen will be out on the market. Sadly 4K on a 27" is not much different from 1440p on the same monitor , since the screen is basically too small for so many pixels.

Yea hopefully for less then 500$. But I dont need that big cause a small room I game in.
  • there should be an option for not upgrading or building a new PC, as mine is up to date with the ability to run all new games on ultra at min 60 fps even in high action situations.
  • I don't need to upgrade. I already have a 4k display with a Nvidia GTX 980, and an 8 core proc. I still might upgrade though. Maybe a newer GPU and more RAM, but that's it.

Actually if you build your own you can probably build a good one for a fairly good price. I bet you can get a Nvidia GTX 980 for about $230. You can probably get an even better one for that price in a couple years. You can get an 8 core proc for around $250. A nice gaming quality Mother Board for around $90. I bet your biggest expensive would be if you wanted a nice solid state HDD.

Not full upgrade, I just built a brand new one and ordered a GTX 1070. But could upgrade in 2yrs time.

I doubt I'll need more that 16g RAM to run Ashes so we good there.

I get free monitors from work when they replace them every few years, they toss the old ones and I'm not a snob about screens so works out perfect.

  • Will build a new one using some components from the old one, I'm sure I won't need more than 24 GB of DDR4 Ram for example. Hopefully ashes will support 4k, as I expect it to be nothing abnormal by that time.

No option for NOT buying or upgrading.

Got a sweet laptop with GTX980M, 32GB Ram  Hopefully I'll be good come launch.

  • I am not planning on building a new pc for this game. My current PC should run it just fine.
  • Can someone teach us tech illiterates what to do? =(

Let me guess, your monitor isn't 144 Hz? Basically there isn't any retail computer than can run the latest games on ultra settings + 4k and 144Hz, throw in HDR... lucky if there's a graphic card than can handle that before 2020

  • If i think i need to i will but i usually don't care about having everything on ultra high settings.

I use this. Super helpful in setting up what build you want and what's needed plus where the best price is and if your parts are compatible.

  • I always go for higher end of "best buy" segment when I'm upgrading my PC.

It means I don't want to pay 300% price to gain just 5-10% of performance by getting current top of the line (ridiculously priced) upgrade.

I will rather go for 10% lower performance of current top models, but pay triple less price tag.
  • I build a new one every couple years. Take a couple weeks and read stats and reviews to make sure stuff works together and is good stuff. As Gothix said don't go with top of the line. Go one step below and save a lot money. Doing the research takes time don't rush it.
I build on Newegg.com and keep an eye out for deals.
If this thread shows up again closer to launch I may post my new build.
Gonna save money till probably a month or so before launch.
  • I probably won't be. I built mine a couple of years back and its still performing more than well enough (I did go a touch OTT with it - 3.4GHz 8-core hyperthreaded, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 2GB video Cards, etc) for my purposes. I'm probably 3-4 years off of a rebuild.
  • Regrettably, I already built mine soon as I saw Ashes was a PC game.. Should have waited.. I brought the nows top of the line stuff, cost me about $2300, when the parts I brought will all cost much less by the time I actually get around to using it.. :c

My comp was high end when I put it together back in 2013 however it will be due an overhaul by late 2019.  Can recycle SSD and RAM so hopefully can get what I need done for about £1000.
  • I'm thinking of threadripper build. And 4k capable gpu and monitor. Hehe.

I would say 4K 144Hz will be doable in 2-3 generations of GPUs. Also it depends on the game and/or graphic fidelity.

The performance gap between 1080ti and 1080 is ~35%. Depending on what you intend to do with it (4K or 1440p) that's a big difference. Of course you'll pay for it, so it's up to you if you can afford it. But the price difference is not 300% though.

The gap between the top card and second top one seems to be increasing every generation. Last gen it was ~25%, before that ~18%. Will be interesting to see what it'll be next gen.

So yeah it depends on your usage case. Are you aiming for 4K? then maybe a top card is the only way. Are you aiming for high Hz? Then a top card might be your only option as well, depending on your resolution. If you're aiming to do 1080p or 1440p then no, a top card is not needed, defenitly not when Ashes is out.

Don't forget HDR, in the race to 4k people seems to have forgotten that resolution is actually quite far down on the list when it comes to image quality. I would say (1080p+HDR) > (4k, no HDR), the difference is quite mind boggling. Of course this is hard on your graphics card.

Frustratingly  HDR is coming to Tv's and consoles first, right now there are only 2 PC monitors on the market that are built for it (Samsung CHG90 and Samsung CHG70, not 4k), which don't really reach up to true HDR standards. Acer and Asus will release theirs at start of 2018(probably around 1500$), these have 144Hz and 4k.
