Legendary items?

  • I agree that legendary armors/items/weapons should be limited in number. I don't think that all of them would have to be raid-locked or PvP-locked.

Once obtained, as @Gothix suggested, there should be a way for them to enter back into the game world. If you have a legendary weapon and you die, there should be a chance to drop. Otherwise all of the world's (server) legendary items become spoken for, will never be an option for anyone else, and players will jump servers or in extreme cases g-quit.

Limiting the chance to drop a legendary item to corrupted players is risky. Once obtained that player could choose not to engage in that behavior. Same could be said for making it have drop-chances in flagged-pvp (caravans, sieges, guild conflicts).

If instead once obtained they become permanently out of my reach I wouldn't mind - because legendary. I have friends however that would bail on my server
  • I believe that legendary should be very rare and very hard to get, because it rewards people who commit time to find/create/completed something. The legendary thing should be in every categories for items and I think Ashes will deliver that.
Of course having the title on a item as legendary, epic, common and so on, takes away the special feeling on having a rare item, because you switch it out when you become stronger, but that's how it is. You can't have one thing you whole life and use it. Yeah, you can upgrade it, but at some point all things have a max cap on how it will work for you and there is just better things out there. That's why it is great to have other legendary things that isn't a weapon or armor. To mix it up.
  • I would like Ashes to became more a game of skill than a game of grind.

Too many MMOs (all of them) were based on grind. Why wouldn't Ashes say "no more" and push the game more towards things being obtained by skill rather then grind?

Of course some amount of effort should still be involved so you don't get everything instantly. But it should be pushed more towards skill, then towards pure grind.

At least legendary stuff should be behind skill wall, rather then behind grind wall.

I think legendaries should require grinding and skill to get not just one or the other
  • Yeah ofc. both. Just not pure grind.

Perhaps brains too. You should first figure out what you have to do, it should be secretive. Game shouldnt just tell you you have to do A, B and C to get legendary item.

Once you found the clues, and used your brain to figure it out, you could start your effort, and with "grind" but challenge-full grind (not just doable by anyone, it should be something with low chance of success until you practice it and get skillful enough to do it) eventually you could get to your item.
  • The question I have is,  what do people really want from a legendary item.  Is it that it would be the best in slot on server?   Or and my personal preference, the item is legendary in lore.   I'm all for the legendarys  being as good as the best in slot of the rest of the gear available but not better. No one wants a legendary they never use as it is not as good as their last drop. However give Excalibur to a peasant and they should still loose to a master swordsman even if master swordsman is armed only with a rusty spoon.  Excalibur is legendary in name, regardless if it magical or just the named sword of a warlord.  If some one gets a legendary item it should be flashed up on screen posted on news boards etc making both the player and the item legendary with all the rest of us normal's wondering what is so legendary  about this item. Que opportunity to seek out the history of this item.
  • I don't want legendary items to be more powerful damage wise.

I would like they have some unique effect on them, that can make your play style a bit different.
  • That's a nice idea.  Maybe unique partical/SFX too.
  • what about adding new skills just for items. like a vampire sword that gives you a skill call blood leach which lets you cut a person and have life steal
  • Awesome.  Maybe like secondary class enhancements the skill adapts to its users skills giving unique enhancements giving the player the opportunity to enhance their skill in a way not normally available to them due to their class choices.
  • Old Everquest developers they use Epics not legendarys
  • The unique effects / skills is a fantastic idea for legendaries and one I hope doesn't get swallowed by the thread.
I would personally love to see a small drop down option liston pick up.... so you get some choice in it, hence it makes it more personal and awesome to YOU..

Nagash would obviously go for any necro skeleton skills, whereas Id likely choose twinklly sparkles.

But you will die before you take my twinkly sparkles away from me
  • So while legendary items would have same damage output like epic items, I'd add some special skills to them, for example:

Legendary Bow of Eagles Eye - while wearing this bow you see invisible enemies 30 yards around you

Legendary Shield of Great Protector - each time a party member (that's inside 30 yards from you) receives a hit that exceeds 30% of his HP, an attacker gets pulled towards you and slowed 30% for 3 seconds

Legendary Dagger of Swift Shadows - while in stealth your movement speed is increased 30%

    Stuff like that.
