Will you be a land lover or a Captain on the high seas?

We all know there will be ships in the game. So what will your career choice be? Ship captain or staying on land? I believe it will work, meaning life on the open sea, and tons of adventures to be had from what I understand.

Does this excite you?

  • The pirate life is the life for me, but I'll do my fair share of banditry in caravans by land as well!

  • Depends if navy combat is really cool.
  • I'll be a land rat.

Naval combat is fun, but I prefer to be in full control of my movement as opposed to ship mechanics that usually arent that great.
  • I'd be interested in both. Can't really tell before trying it, though.
  • depends on if they require multi crew ships.  A fast clipper and I'll be sailing forever upgrading my boat.  Big galleys that require 4 other people, I'll go be a farmer.
  • I will be a land lubber but I do truly hope there is a very robust ship to ship based combat system, plus the shipping of cargo in the same way caravans work. I would imagine a shipwright may very well be one of the specialisations for woodworking.  There may not be underwater combat or exploration in at the start of the game but hopefully it will be introduced at some point.
Just hope for a really robust system that people will enjoy, might not be my thing but others will love it and that's cool by me and good for the game.

Understanding that the ships will be epic in Ashes, you can expect to see my infamous Cupcake sails / flag flying high and true!

  • If someone has a touring a cruise ship I might buy a ticket. Otherwise I like my feet on the ground.

A pirate's life for me! Yo! Ho!

    This song says it all!

  • If sailing in Ashes feels like sailing made me feel in ArchAge, it will be a hard choice; so I'll probably do both.
  • Honestly I think I will probably make my way to and area with a more temperate climate away from the coast with high mountains and wooded hills, an area that get all 4 of the seasons, really looking forward to seeing the change of the seasons in game. Might have to make a special trip to go sailing on a ship just to see and experience it at least once. Then back to the mountains :) .

Avast ye bilge rats, make way for what be a true pirate.

I've pillaged the finest booty, drank the groggiest rum and gone the longest without bathing.

If you plan to run a naval PVP/pirate guild, message me please!

  • As long as I do not have to actually sail the ship and you need me to kill some people and raid some ships im in  OR being a merchant

Otherwise I will most likely not be on a ship, unless the ship combat is similiar to AC: Black Flag then I may invest some time into it
  • Looovveedd the pirate life back in Archeage, would definitely be a tough choice
  • Can you fish and encounter monsters on the sea? If so...
  • Captain of the High Seas sounds amazing, but life has a way of reminding me that I wasn't built for swimming :p
  • Well, I would try in game, but it wouldn't be my thing. I'm not really interested in all ship cruise fight and pirating thing (except the PoC movie series) battling on the ocean with cannons. But I am interested all the magic martial arts fight like sprinting on the sea surface like a Chinese Martial Arts movie fight scene.

As long as I can go all on the ships like the Ocean Spirit style, I'm good.

I have magic, why would I play with cannonballs

Yeah . . . being short and fat doesn't help you any does it?

    Not one damn bit!
  • I'm curious how this would work without factions, otherwise I'd say I'm in for sure. My concern is that a complete free-for-all would make sea-based trade runs difficult at best. Unless there were somewhat protected "water-world" nodes that mirrored those on land (caravan with guards that could be buffed, warning before attacks, etc) with reasonable access, it would hard to make viable, IMO.

    Risk vs reward.

But what about the seaweed getting stuck around your ribs, that must be a pain in the 'bone'.
  • I'm definitely going to be on land, I might use water to transport to places if they add it as a feature as opposed to walking around on land! To scary in the ocean >.<

we all need to eat our greens
  • Honestly, I forget that we have ocean content most of the time. Probably because it's not spoken of too much and also because I've never really had a sailing experience in the MMO world. I don't know, I guess I'm just meh about it. Who knows I may fall in love with it? For everyone who's excited about it please stay hyped because your involvement will make sure that this content is good.

If you can make a casino boat/ bar, will you do it? I was listening to past Q&A, this question came up, and the DEVs seem to like the idea. lol

  • I would make a pleasure cruise ship if possible
If I play my character as long as I hope to I see myself going back and forth from land to sea in waves. It would be an amazing experience to leave your freehold and venture forth only to come back after a long time and notice all of the things that have changed (assuming you don't have to return due to a siege).
