  • Not sure if people have noticed this one. What I'm wondering is that will the possible underrealm race be sameway that 1 specie and then 2 subtypes as playable races.

  • Well all I know is Human will be my main race. Not sure if we can play other races on one account.

  • Wood elves, if executed nicely will be my race of choice. If there is a druid subclass to go along even more so

DWARVES. When I started getting hyped, that was the first thing that I looked for. So happy. :)
Literally the only race that matters
  • I got as far as dwarves and then pledged to kickstarter.
My only hope is that they have massive beards and are short, stocky and use massive axes and warhammers, and not the puny daggers or swords from other races.

Also crossbows or rifles not the mamby pandy bows of the hairy fairy elves.

Honestly though I really don't care much for the developer background stories of the races because for me Dwarfs have one set of values written in stone from Tolkien and Warhammer. Clan and Hold come first, Dwarfs live underground and are some of the greatest craftsmen and engineers in the world. Honour before everything else.

There be grudges to settle ready my ax.

Would love to find some other like minded dwarven players and create a guild based on the lore from Tolkien mixed with Warhammer.
  • I would like to see some conversations in the world based on the Race and Class that you choice. Like you are a necromancer elf "That is a path your folk don't usually follows" Something like that but with more depth lol

I'd actually like to see an archer dwarf, or a mage dwarf, or a fighter elf. I don't like they "this race is best for this class" approach. It makes it kinda boring to see the same race+class combination.
regardless of bonuses or not i'm probably going to play a dwarf(nikua)/thief as i like the class and race more than the others even if it isn't optimal
  • It's early days but I hope we'll get to pick our racial bonuses depending on the class we want to play. Let's say each race has 4 racial passives. One would be the innate bonus skill line experience and the others would be three stat increases. The stat increases would be the ones that make a difference at max level(min/max etc). I'd prefer it if we were given the option to pick and choose between these stat racial passives from a list containing the first, second, and third tier of stat passives. You would be allowed to pick any of the tiered passives. However, you could not pick more than one. Only one of each.

This would allow a ton of variety with a high probability of avoiding races with "bad" passives, making them 100% viable. This would automatically create build diversity+good balance between all races. You could pick whichever you want and enjoy the game.

a bird humanoid race could be interesting. I'm sure some zone would be high in the sky like mountain.
I'd like to build on what @Niraj is saying and hope the devs consider both non-humanoid races and biome-specific races. Making the game design less anthropomorphic from the outset in terms of character models, animations, vehicles and gear design. In my opinion this will build a strong foundation for future directions the game may decide to take.

In Ashes, no one alive has been a Necromancer - we come through the Gateway from a world without magic.

And there are 4 new races.  Maybe even all 8 races are new.
We don't know what racial stats the races will have - we can expect half to have traditional racial stats and at least half to have unusual racial stats.

I haven't heard the devs mention racial passives.
The devs have mentioned racial augments - which we can use to augment our skills/abilities. And they've mentioned racial stat progression.

The devs seem to be striving to ensure that all class combos are fun and viable.
There shouldn't be any bad passives if there aren't any passives at all.

Seems like there is no need for 2 subtypes because the Tulnar already have a wide variety of physical permutations just within the one race. And, more importantly, they all share the same culture.
  • we all know where going under realm races
