Should Guilds have small member limits?

  • I agree that the aim of the game is to have a big guild, HOWEVER, the devs have said that if you are a smaller guild then certain buffs or perks will be in place to help them compete with the massive guilds out there. No one wants a zerg after all.

I thought the aim of the game was to build communities around nodes and have guilds be apart of that community, and that guilds would have a choice of perks to pick from as the guild advances. One of those perks being a larger roster size.

One of the things I like about ashes is that guild progression is not about how many people you have in your guild, but rather the activity of your guild.
  • Reasons to have a large Guild Capacity:
    • The Ratio of people that are online vrs offline.
    • Alts
    • Different time zones
A lot of times requests for people to request games to increase guild amounts usually fall s to the amount of people you often need in a guild to actually have enough people that are actually on to play,

Ratio: Tends to be more of a problem with you casual to less competitive guilds. Coordinating and demanding that people be on at specific periods of times is no small feat. Having a large amount of people in guild increases the chance that there will at least be a higher chance that you will have people playing at the same time you do.

Alts: Anyone who has been in good guilds one of the biggest issues is whether to let alts stay in the guild or not. Especially if let's say some one really plays 2 characters a lot and both fill a function with the guild but has to kick one out cause of low guild capacity.

Different time zones: Filling a guild is often a challenge in it self.  Filling it with people that play at almost the exact time periods is well very challenging. Having a large guild helps ensure that there will be enough people in overlaps of play time to do things that are productive as a guild.

Most games underestimate what is a good amount of players for a guild. They often increase it after plagues of begging and demanding from their customers.

Personally I think 300 is a good amount to start with.

People worry about competitive guilds having the edge. They will regardless what the guild size is. They are often very demanding and require people show up x amount of times for events or get kicked.  Their ratio of online players for events are going to be high regardless of the amount of people. Competitive guilds tend to go for Quality over Quantity.

Having a large guild helps the less competitive and more casual guilds. They are often less demanding and organized, so the overlap of actual online players is harder to achieve.

  • Look if anyone has played ark here you would understand the problem that mega guilds bring. Not to say I don't want large guilds, but at a certain size it really does impact the fun for players.
