How important is individuality for you

As a big fan of the part rpg in mmorpg i love my chars to be unique as possible. Therefore mmo's with a bad character editor and inflexible classes wont even get a chance from me. I think specially in a mmo its rly easy to get a feeling of beeing just 1 of a million people wich all do the same stuff and play the same way. So i rly appreciate all the good ideas i heared so far wich AoC has to avoid that feeling. Like having a big variety of ways to interact and build a ecconomy, mixed classes with limited skill points and for sure a good character editor.

But beside all good things i seen so far i would happy for every additionally part  of individualization. For example customizable armor/mounts/houses . I know housing is alrdy confirmed but i dont know yet in wich extend. I would love a big selection of housing dekorations or even usable items so i can show someone a room that not exist like this a second time in this game.

But i could talk endless about things i would like and im alredy very happy with the things announced so far. Besides i also love the idea of giving players the cnance to actually change the world ^^ .

What i would like to know now is how important are such things for you .

  • I think the ability to create a unique character causes the person to get more invested in the game. It keeps gameplay fresh from both a pve and pvp perspective. In pve and pvp you can try a host of builds and ideas on how to play. In pvp it adds the tension of not knowing what your opponent is bringing to the table and makes each combat exciting.
  • I'm not sure, what does everyone else think?
  • Well I don't get to be an elin runnin around with a shield bigger than my body and able to walk around like it weighs nothing so I do not care

Going the group think rout? Doest sound vertical individualistic lol
  • I wanna be a unicorn :(
  • I think there will be enough tools given to us to make our characters look quite individual.
  • I wanna get freaky with some animals until I create a Tulnar.
  • I want the character uniqueness. The housing uniqueness is secondary to me.
  • I remember on one game platform (which allowed for player content uploads), where a thieves guild master had a unique hat made of remnants of a scroll, basically a medieval version of a newspaper boat hat LOL.  There was no mistaking him in a crowd, ever!

While that kind of customization might be impractical for an MMO I think there should be some thought given to customization.  Hair and eye color only goes so far.  Weight, height, age progression and scars/markings is nice to have, but even ESO dropped age progression out from Skyrim core when they ported code at first.

Lol, I knew someone would get the joke.

I think the same way .

UnknownSystemError  <3 youre profile picture . Little Britain is so good xD
  • I'd rather have unique items than change eye width. Give the smith some ability to change the look of weapons and armors if they are high enough level.
  • Individuality comes with skills.

Even if you had 1 class in game with 7 fixed skills, players would still differ from each other. By skills, brain, personality, and how successful they became.

That sounds like a moba to me and those lack expression of personality completely. Being a skilled player doesn't make you unique from a roleplaying perspective it just makes you good at playing the game.
Individuallity comes from how your character expresses themselves, what skills and abilities your character has,  your character's armor and weapons, what professions your character has taken up, how your character chooses to spend their time, and their achievements and titles within the game world. It has very little to do with the player and much to do with the player's character.

I like as much creativity and as many options as possible in designing my characters.  That said, highly individual characters don't mean that much if the world they inhabit is not as highly developed.  My characters can be as individual and detailed as I can make them but if the game world is flat and boring I won't stick around long.
  • I want to be individual, just like everybody else.
  • I keep finding that 49.9% of people are below average.
  • Being unique is a huge draw in any type of rpg. It makes you connect with the character more and brings in better immersion to the game. It also allows the world to feel a little more alive when everyone doesn't look the same.
  • Sooo important. Diffirentiating the people even based on their character look is fine, like I can know who they are by looks.
  • I strife on it. In every game so far ive tried to be so recognisable and individually recognised that people. The moment when people recognise you by either deeds or looks, youve got it made :D
  • I'm sad they scrapped the system where you spend points in like sta, str, int.. when you level. I dont like the templates ala wow where everything is pre set.
If I want to be a gimped warrior with 5 str and 20 int let me be one!

Also visuals are very important.. I want to make a unique face and I want to see visual changes when I equip new armour.
  • Individuality is a major aspect for me. I hate it when all characters look the same with the same playstyle per class that you need to follow and that one set of equipment you need to have, otherwise everyone thinks you're a noob.
I don't want to be a cardboard cutout.
  • I am always down for individuality. I hate MMOS where everyone looks the same and uses the same items/skills. Steven seems big on this as well from previous videos I've seen where they do want people to be able to stand out with titles/statuses and even rare items.
  • What does it matter the slant and shape of my characters eyes or the size of my upper thigh if once I put my equipment on you cant tell anyways?
  • tugowar Here you have indeed a point but you could still take youre helm of in safe zones. Also much of youre character could be visible while you wear a costume plus i hope they have the possiblility to change the visibility of armor parts like the helm. And i think they talked about armor customization wich many ppl will like.
  • @tugowar Yeah I could care less about my eye slant hahah or my butt size. I am more interested in gear and skill differences. Unique items, or accessories, but character customization is a huge deal for a lot of people and having those options will attrach more people...of course game play is critical though

  • I'm still playing this really old game where the only customizable part of your character was the hair color and style, and the only changeable look through equipment was the headgear and some wings, so...

I do care about builds though. I like to play with my stats and skills to best fit my style of play... or not fit it at all, just for fun lol.

I hear ya :)  I know how important it is to some people (you sims players :P ), and I do hope that I can make my armor as bad ass as I want.  :)
  • The main thing I'd like to see is the ability to make a male character that actually looks good and not just a stereotype

I am not trying to say that game play isn't more important but that doesn't mean they shouldn't take their time and do character customization right
  • Kinda half way with this. I don't want the devs to spend most of their time with customisation and then give us a horribly unbalanced game.
If the boss is too powerful then no one can survive for very long, then no one is going to play.
if enemies are too weak, we'll probably have bot-infested communities and a community where tanks and healers are obsolete.

Too little customization means everyone looks identical, and that ain't good.
