How important is individuality for you

  • It's kind of a set off when every single character looks the same!
  • Character creation is a major part of an MMO for me. Depending on the game it could even be the most exciting part. It makes starting alts fun...even if they're just a mule for crafting or more inventory space. The ability to customize becomes more of less of an issue depending on other factors, like what cosmetics are like and how easily they're obtained.

For example, the character creation in LOTRO isn't the best, but they allow you wear any armor you find as cosmetics. A dwarf or man could wear a pretty floral dress if they so desire (and many do), a minstrel could wear pieces from medium, etc. So the individuality is acquirable in game, often quite easily, even though faces and bodies all basically look the same.

Compare this to BDO, which hands down has the best character customization available at the moment. Your character can be modeled to look like real people it's so detailed. But cosmetics? Even the extremely expensive and beautiful ones you *can* get are common, since they're the only ones available to everyone. How many people are going to be running through town and notice that Player 1 looks exactly like Cara Delevigne when she's wearing Sexy Outfit 8 along with 30 other people in the area?

With Ashes plans to make a solid character creation *and* customizable cosmetics that are acquired in game, I'm hoping we will have the best of both worlds this time around.

  • If it doesnt feel like a necro it doesnt play like a necro :P

What does it matter the slant and shape of my characters eyes or the size of my upper thigh if once I put my equipment on you cant tell anyways?
For those close up moments when you take that special person on a romantic date at some breath taking location, just to find out they are cross eyed . : P

I would like a lot of customization in how my character looks and most definitely how my housing, vendor stall, tavern etc look.

If I could customize how my hired / created NPC that work for me look, I would be ecstatic.

Individuality is something I feel can be easily overlooked in some large MMOs but its an important factor none the less! Most people play MMOs for the ability to do things the way the envisioned them being done.

As much as I like working with a group, still maintaining my separate identity is important to me and Im sure its important to most players.

Wether thats obtaining certain armor sets or achieving some sort of glory in the digital world, its their individuality that allows for that exploration and a rich experience in any game. More game developers should take heed to it!
  • Individuality is a bonus really. To me anyway. The game content has to be good and obviously you need to be able to choose you name but other than that I'm happy.
