Since Ashes is a Subscription based game, they don't need to lure people into the cash shop, but use the cash shop as a supplementary system to help fund stuff like cosmetics and other cool stuff in the game.
The cosmetics in the cash shop are quite expensive, but you have to realize the time and effort it takes to model them, and then import them into the engine, and Intrepid in the end do want to make some money selling them to fund other parts of the game.
Basically, people are going to look at $25 for a skin and say, "I ain't paying that!" and then there's a small percentage of people who are like, "Ooh hmm.. sure!"
When the game comes out, there will be only a handful of actual players with them, depending on how big the game is.

To me I still feel strongly it should be a Sub only game and not have any microtransactions at even just cosmetics.
Let's hope that the prices come down after the game releases and the current prices are just a preorder investment to help support game development.
Steve seems genuine so I curb some of my distrust and doubt, I am giving AOC a chance and will see what unfolds. When it comes to micro transactions and if he holds true to his promises that it wont impact the game negatively and there will be items of equal appeal in game that could be huge positive impact, having a cash shop but not going over board with it. Even if I'm not crazy about it, it could still have a positive impact and set some examples for how other companies do business.
But yeah I still do not like cash shops, not in games I pay straight out pay for, or that I would pay subs for. That's just me being honest
In a game with subscriptions i still feel strongly cash shops shouldn't be involved at most I may tolerate it if it doesn't go overboard yes even for just appearances.
pets are 15 in the preorder packs, they are 25 in the backer addons
gliding mount (the hippogryph) is 20 in the preorder packs while the gliding mount addon is 50
granted, there is some exclusivity due to the packs' tier that they belong to. And I hope it's just that, because if this is any indication of how much cosmetics will be once the game launches I will not be touching that stuff.
note that the 20 for the hippogryph mount is still way too high IMO.
